women drivers, no survivers

I let my sister take my 1993 out and the belt ripped off. Nothing would have happened, if she would have stopped. But being the retard she is she drove it another 3 miles with the temp. needle buried. So what I'm wondering is what should I do. Should I buy the $50 some dollar part, put the belt back on and pray it runs. Or do you think my engine will be shot?

Also anyone looking for a dependable 1993 f150. haha

I would throw another belt on and see what happens. Usually belts don't break for no reason, so unless it was really old and dry rotted you might have a seized up water pump or tensioner to replace. Theres a chance you have a blown head gasket and possibly even warped heads if it overheated bad enough, but all you can do is drive it and see what happens.

The water pump bearings in my '93 Taurus disintegrated and let the coolant spew out. The wp pulley was now flopping around and it cut the belt. My son drove it in this condition for at least 10 miles.

I slapped on a new pump and belt and it's running great.

I agree with F4e. Something caused the belt to come off, but it should be fixable. Water pumps, belts, tensioners are relatively cheap.

Fords are tough man I doubt three miles hurt the engine, and I'm sure everyone is right and something cause it to come off. Good luck though, I know that sick feeling when you're wondering how bad it might be.

i took your advice and slapped a new belt on her and it spews out black smoke from the tailpipe. Would you say that it's pretty well shot? And how hard do you think it would be to salvage the engine if it was?

Black smoke is excess fuel. Probably not caused by the engine getting a little too hot. I would look for something else that is wrong before you scrap the motor.

How long did you run the engine? Maybe you just need to let it run for a couple minutes to see if the black smoke goes away. If you got the enigne too hot usually you will blow a gasket of warp a head resulting in a coolant leak which would give you white smoke from the exhaust. Black is fuel like 302guy said. I suppose something in the fuel system could have gotten screwed up, but i've never seen that happen from overheating. Run it for a few and see what happens.

Replace the o-2 sensor, the excessive heat fried it. Ford has a fail safe on OBD1 systems so that when the sensor goes out, the computer goes rich to get you home. jeff
