Thumbs up F.i.p.k Finally Finished

Man I like that deep throaty sound my truck makes now. I finally installed an fipk, or actually bought the filter that comes in the fip kit and built the adaptors and mounting brackets outta polished stainless steel here at work. Wish I had a digital camera so I could post pics, it looks really nice, I think maybe even a little better than what you can buy.

Ceramic coated headers and true duals with x-pipe are next Man thats gonna cost a lotta money

so did it make any performance difference? ive been thinking of doing the same thing myself. It would be cool if you could post some pictures. If I make my own adapter thing i will have to use plain steel though.

I have a K&N FIPK
I hate the sound it makes
When I really hit the pedal it completely over rides the sound of my Gibson Catback

DAVE186, it helps a little, not real noticeable but my gas mileage went up about a mile to the gallon. My old filter was pretty dirty though. I have seen guys go to the hardware store and buy pvc stuff to make there adaptors and then painted um black, they looked great.
UNCBOB, I don't have cats, mine must be pretty load cause I can still hear the exhaust real good

Sweet... The replacement filter is a waaaay better deal than the FIPK. You should post some pictures of it! UncBob: What Gibson exhaust do ya have?? I know they're quiet but I couldn't imagine having an intake louder than the exhaust

I can't hear my intake over my exhaust. even when the intake was my only mod, it really didnt change the sound, the only time I could hear it was when I was at a dead stop and punched it, and you could hear it suck real hard for a second, then the scream of the 302 overwhelms it.

I never really noticed a more "throaty" sound with my FIPK, as so much a sucking noise. Like others have posted, my exhaust and engine roar by far supercede the sound of my air intake. However, I did notice a nice little seat of the pants gain in performance, and consequently (perhaps due to a change in my driving habits) a decrease of about 1 mpg in fuel mileage. It's kind of a pain to keep clean, especially when I go off road from time to time, but it is worth every penny IMO!

TF, how often do you have to clean? I noticed mine has trash on it already and I am expecting to have to clean regularly. I actually noticed about a 1mpg drop the first week cause I was playing with the new power and sound, but after I got over it and went back to driving like an old fart my mileage is considerably better than before the installation

Well, if you do mostly on-road driving, then the suggested cleaning intervals are from 15,000-30,000 miles as needed. Basically, if your filter looks black, or completely brown, then it's time to clean. However, one fun day on the trails will always mean one afternoon in the driveway cleaning the filter. But a little dirt or some tiny debrit is normal. You can just get a soft brush and gently remove stuff like that without having to take your filter out. The thorough cleaning is the one that is recommended every year to 2 years.
