Question power window question

I have a 93 F150 2WD the power windows work great, but on occasion, the driver's side don't work at all. If I wait a few minutes, it works again. I also hear a sound from the door--kind of like a very short "toot" kind of noise. It is hard to describe but if you have heard it you know what I am talking about. I was wondering if it is the switch (it clicks ok) or a relay or loose motor. I am going to look at it this weekend but if any of you have had a similar problem what did you do to fix it? Thanks

Hi Bpm

Know what you mean. Fix now or fix later. I fixed later..not good.

Anyhow...if your a DIYer...you can fix. I assume fuses etc ok, but have seen problems from intermittant fuses. Meaning at first glance they look ok, but actually arent. That one drove me crazy

My 88 driver side went out. You gotta pull the door panel off etc.

First check that the switch is ok. If it appears switch is bad..like intermitant or dosent work each time...use a jumper wire to verify.

Then getting to lift motor...on the 88 model...had to drill out the dimples in metal to get to bolts holding motor. You may/maynot have to do same?

Fix window so it dosent drop when you disconnect lift arm from motor. I forgot exactly why...widow may have to be in up position to remove lift arm..hence window will drop if not secured? I recall using duct tape to hold in place. May/may not have to do?

Remove motor...NOW...look at the gear teeth..are they ok?...88 models.some had plastic teeth...some had metal teeth. Teeth in mine were plactic/ bad...motor was ok. Didnt know at time..cause i first bought the replacement lift motor, when all i needed was the replacement teeth. Directions come w/new lift motor thats how i found out about replacement teeth. Your yr. truck maybe different? If teeth ok...probably bad motor. But verify.

While your in there...relube pivot points on lift arm etc. Oh, before you put door panel back...if you installed new motor..be sure it works.

Hope this helps? I agree..its a P I B. but do save$$

Good luck...OT

Thanks for the help!! I will check into the motor and check out the switches and related stuff. I know the switches are common to go bad so I will look at that very close.

My passenger side does the same thing . my problem tho is the adjusting screw over tightens itself on the gears . i have to pull the door panel and loosen it up to get it to work sometimes and sometimes it works fine later on it's own . most the time that it doesnt want to work tho is when the window is down and at night when i go out to roll the windows up . so here i am later in the evening out having to tear apart the door to get the dang thing up . kinda sucks . i replaced my drivers door motor with an electric step motor from an RV . exact same motor and i didnt have to pay through the nose for it .( FREE ) when my passenger side does finally go out i'll do the same thing .
