Question Ignition switch stiffffffffffffff

My 1990 ignition switch is getting hard to turn. Can you simply apply wd40 in the hole ? or adjust it?
Any response would be appreciated

I had the same problem with my 91. It only did it when it was cold out.
People were telling me that I had to replace all these different parts. I was like....screw that!
I disconnected the battery and and sprayed the hell out of the ignition switch and all the surrounding components. It might of been alittle overkill, but it hasn't stuck ever since. And that was a couple of years ago.

Good luck.

Yeah, that same thing happened to my ignition switch a couple of years ago. I ended up just getting a new ignition switch for like $70 and it's been fine ever since. But I would take Dvldog458's advice first, and only if that doesn't work look into getting a new ignition switch.

Mine got stiff, just replaced it. I had to buy a lock kit $60, included the ignition and both door locks to keep everything one matching key. The ignition is a breeze, small hole in the bottom of the switch, just push it in with somethin bout 1/8" dia and turn the key to start and pull it out. The door locks are a pain in the butt.

If your gonna' squirt lube in there, I would use a silicon spray lube rather than WD-40, no stink and lasts longer. I use it on door locks as well. Works good on household door locks too.

the actual problem isnt the lock mechanism , the keyway axis that slides in the column for the tilt in the steering column just under the wheel and the blinker mech. needs some greese on it . sure the lock starts sticking and replacing it will make it a bit easier to turn but that isnt the root of the problem . i had my axis break and good luck finding one . that little sucker was cheap pot metal . i went to a junk yard and found one off an 85' that was brass and with a little mod to it got it working . no more problem after that and i didnt replace the ignition switch . dvldog free'd his up with all the WD , i'd try that first . if that don't get it pull the wheel and use some lithium greese on it .(picture in my gallery)
