Yo Beastie

Well I had the gears installed last Friday, went from 3.31's to 3.73's and wow what a difference, big acceleration improvement, my best mod so far. Highway rpm's are only a few hundred more than they were before the swap.

I guess on our year trucks you don't have to recalibrate your speedometer because of some type of speed sensor attached to the rear diff. some how.

If you have any questions just ask ...Mike

Thanks for the info, hmm strange about the speedo, you an calibrate it on our trucks, by doing something with the cluster. It seems that I will have to do the 3.73s, maybe even before I do any other mods. I have heard that the 302 like the gear combination of 3.73, so I will probably do it. Did you get a Limited Slip, or even have one before, if not, what kind of traction problems do you have now?

My truck has an open diff. so far no traction problems, been takin' it easy still breaking in the new gears , the speedo wasn't affected at all by the gear swap and the transmission shifting seems fine.

I thought about having traction lok installed with the gears but didn't want to have to worry about having it rebuilt when it went out and so far have had no problem with the open diff.

The gear swap set be back $450.00 ish including parts and labor but the truck has a whole new attitude, alot more fun to drive .

keep on truckin' ...Mike

Have you noticed any great change in the mileage? Ive got 3:55s in mine but was thinking of going to 3:73 or 4:10. Just wondering about the economy of it??

My truck came factory with 3:73's and it only gets around 11 when it needs a tune up and a little better than 13 with a tune up, it's also a 4x4

If you have 3.55s, there's little to gain by going to 3.73s, that's only a 5% increase and probably not worth the expense. $.10s are a different matter. At 15% increase there should be a noticable difference.

Still to soon to tell about fuel economy , I've only had the gears in for about a week , living less than 2 miles from work make's it kind of hard to tell .
