Talking My new motor has arrived...

Well after much thought, research, and WAITING (Thank you Comp Cams for making me and my engine builder wait 36 DAYS for an "off the shelf" XE grind cam!!! Guess I'll use someone else next time) my new 327cu stroker has arrived. I have a photo of mock up before actual final assembly of all accessories, but unfortunately attachments are disabled and the gallery is having maitenance done, I'll try again later. Power "guestimate" for this combination is 320hp & 380ft-lb, will post dyno results after break-in and fine tuning. My performance rebuild of the AOD is being completed as I type this which includes all "the right stuff", too much to list here. I will try and put specs and other photos in a gallery if I can figure out how to do it (yea, I'm a newbie to this stuff). Hope you guys are as stoked as I am, can't wait to share all the results with a bunch of fellow enthusists who can appreciate the hard work! More to come!!!

Yes, the AOD build does sound interesting, especially since I'm debating whether I should go with a C6 tranny swap or a beefed up AOD when my tranny goes....I'd like to hear what kind of mods you've done to your tranny and how it all worked out if you don't mind. Thanks!

Angry

Well crap!!! I still can't make an attachment or create a gallery because admin says it's still being maintained, don't know what's up with that, maybe admin can shed some light on that (hint, hint). Any way here is my spec sheet I copied in from Microsoft Word.

MOTOR: Central Coast Mustang
• CCM longblock
o 327cu stroker short block
 New Ford 5.0 standard bore block (4.00”)
 Scat cast steel stroker crank (3.25”)
 Probe Forged I-beam rods (5.40”)
 Probe forged pistons with Childs & Albert ZGTF total seal rings
 GT40P heads with 3-angle valve job
 Manley stainless steel undercut valves
 PC positive lock valve seals
 Comp Cams Double springs
 Comp Cams 10 degree keepers and retainers
 Comp Cams Roller camshaft (XE258HR) / 2 degrees advanced
 Advertised duration / 258 in / 266 ex
 Duration @ .050” 208 in / 216 ex
 Lift with1.7 rockers / .566 in / .578 ex
 Lobe separation angle (LCA) 112 degrees
 RPM operating range / 1300-5300
 JP billet steel multi-index double roller timing set
 Crane 1.7 roller rockers
 28oz imbalance flex plate and harmonic balancer
 CCM / Mac GT40P truck shorty headers
 Edelbrock 5.0 truck intake kit
• Edelbrock 5.0 truck twin 56mm throttle body
• 24# injectors
• Adjustable fuel regulator
• New Ford TFI distributor
• Crane HI-6S ignition with PS91 coil
• New Ford 3G alternator (160amp)
• New Ford radiator (HD 2-row aluminum)
• Flex-A-Lite dual electric radiator fan kit
• All new sensors
• Mass air conversion kit
• C&L mass air meter 76mm with 24# calibration

TRANSMISSION: Cypress Automotive
• Performance rebuild existing AOD
o Complete disassembly, cleaning and inspection.
o Replace all worn service parts
o Add or upgrade the following:
 TransGo HD shift kit
 Hardened lock-up shaft
 Wide ratio gear set
 Additional clutches in direct clutch drum (8 total)
 2” Kevlar lined overdrive band
 A servo
 Improved sprag
 Mechanical Diode
 Finned cast aluminum deep sump pan with drain plug
 HD torque converter with welded vanes
o Blueprint and assemble

REAR END: Cypress Automotive
• Performance rebuild existing rear
• Complete disassembly, cleaning and inspection
• Replace all bearings and seals with new
• New Torsen diff
• New TA girdle cover
• Redline synthetic gear oil

Also of note, you may recall my first post way back asking about high flow fuel pumps, well I found some. Master parts, who sell through AutoZone makes in tank replacement fuel delivery units (that's your in tank pump assembly for you 92-96 guys) that flow 50 GPH or 190 lph. StrangeRanger, I know we talked about this before, but as you can see the mild rebuild grew into a beast, I couldn't help it. (he,he,he!!!)
As to the AOD, the main things to upgrade are the thin lock-up shaft to a hardened one, replace the break prone spring and roller 2nd gear assembly with a mechanical diode, a wide ratio gearset which comes with the stronger 2" overdrive band, better "A" servo for increased band clamping force, add additional clutches to the direct clutch drum, and a deep sump pan for additional fluid for improvedd heat control.
Do all that and you should be able to beat the crap out of it as long as you maintain it well (change fluids and DON'T OVERHEAT!)
Whew! My fingers hurt.....

I wondered when I would see someone do a stroker? Did you buy just the short block from CCM? Post up your dyno numbers when its done. Also your tranny. I did a rebuild on mine about 30k ago and its started to give me some problems. So much for a stock rebuild

Fast Pony,

Thanks for posting the specs on the tranny and engine!!! I'm anxious to see what your dyno numbers look like. Sounds like you've got a real sweet setup there!

FINALLY!!! Thanks to Admin, guess you fixed the bug, because I was finally able to make a gallery.

Anyway, you can now go to my gallery (just search for "Fast Pony") and check out the engine photos and my truck. I will be adding more as the project moves along.

Enjoy and let me know what you think!!!

Beastie,

They are Mac headers. I purchased them from CCM as part of a package deal. Here is a link to Mac page for the model number:

http://www.macperformance.com/macsto.../f-series.html

CCM (Central Coast Mustang in California) sells them for $219.00, you might find a better deal searching on the web, but based on Mac's suggested retail price on their web site, that price is pretty good.

The kit comes with the headers, black oxide header bolts, and nice embossed copper gaskets. They are HTS high temp paint coated, not as good or as nice as ceramic, but it works.

I looked at your exhaust pics (nice job) and it appears headers are all you are missing. By the way, the stock manifold opening is only 1-7/8" in diameter and so is the Mac header at the ball flange. This is because the stock Y-pipe is so small. I have done surgery to the Y-pipe to make it 2-1/4" like the rest of my system and opened the ball flange to match. Looks like you are already there so all you would need to do is open up the ball flange.

Other than that they fit good and you can actually get to the spark plugs OK unlike most equal length Mustang shorties.
