SES Light question
SES Light question
ok, so I have a service engine soon light on sometimes now. It depends on throttle..usually during light throttle and it will turn off on WOT.
My question is this. Is there a way to jump the codes like you can on the older GM cars with a speaker wire?
Also, this happened after my timing was adjusted. Is it possible for timing to affect this?
Thanks,
Pete

Pete,
I don't think there is a way to find the codes like you can on GM or Chysler stuff.
But there is a way to use an anolog volt meter stuck into the diagnostic connector under the hood, its explained in the over the counter service manuals. The procedure I can't remember.
Otherwise get a cheap code reading hand held device they sell at Sears or Wal-Mart. Guys on this board say they work well. I haven't needed one yet

codes
Yes,you can on eec4 trucks that have ck eng lamps (88- 95) Locate the test connectors and ground the single wire of the 2, turn key on and watch the ck eng lamp flash. This is kinda crude with 3 diget codes but it can be done.
ck eng lamp
dave the red lamp comes on due to eng overtemp or low oil pressure (about 7-8 pounds) the ck eng lamp is controled by the pcm to detect failures in emission related componets : ex. tp sensor, egr sensor, o2 sensor etc.
