Runs rough win first start!
Runs rough win first start!
I have a 95 f150 5.0 4x4 with a remote start. Lately, when I first start it, it idles rough for a few secounds (this am it was about a min.) then it smoothes out as normal. I have no check engine lights on. Could it be the fuel filter or plugs? I also noticed a gas leak just started from the rear gas tank but that will have to wait until warmer weather. I am going to replace the fuel filter today anyway, any special tools needed? Thanks for any help.
You will need a quick disconnect tool to get the fuel filter off, remember to bleed off the fuel pressure before you disconnect it. As for running rough on first start, try spraying your spark plug wires with water and see if they arc.

Only when cold out!
I replaced the fuel filter, still no help. It seems to only do this when it is cold out. This am, it would'nt start at all with the remote starter. When I went home at lunch time I got in it and it started and barely kept running until I gave it some gas, then it reved up and finally smothed out and ran fine. I will try to clean the IAC this weekend, any other sugestions?
Mine does the same thing, it sounds like. It only does it for a few seconds and then it runs like a champ. Sometimes it almost seems like its gonna die when I first start it. What is the this mysterious part which you speak of? Where is it and how do you clean it?

I had the same problem, turned out to be a dirty throttle body. Ford mechanic told me fords were notorious for getting crude built up in the throttle body, ford even has there own stuff for cleaning it with. Whatever you use be sure it is safe to use with sensors. Mine ran great after cleaning
NOTE: The throttle body is a sludge resistant design with a coating on the bore and plate. Sludge accumulation will not affect the throttle body air flow. Any attempt to clean the bore and plate will impair the effectiveness of the coating. Do not clean the bore and plate area of the throttle body.
This is what I got from aldata on my truck, what do you do, just wipe it out?

Well, I took the IAC off last night and for having over 167,000 on it, it was very clean. The valve seemed to be free and no buildup at all. I went ahead and sprayed it out and the throttle body and cleaned my k&n filter and put it back together. This am it only stumbled a little when first started but it was not very cold out. It is going to get much colder next week, then we'll see if this helped. After reading alot of these threads, I was expecting to have to use a whole box of q-tips to clean out the IAC. I try to run cleaner through the gas every few months. Is this why it was so clean?
