Fuel Guage woes

Hmm, I've got a bit of a problem with the fuel guage on my dad's truck.

The Fuel guage is not reading the front tank...the needle goes all the way past full...and the front tank is about half full.

Sounds like the float may be stuck... No simple answer on this one.

If it works well on the rear tank but not on the front I'd have to guess the float and/or sending unit is fried inside that tank. Just needs replacement.

Whatever the problem was it seemed to fix itself. I went out and started the truck on the front tank and got a reading...it's about 1/4 full.

i heard if it's pegged past full then it's a bad switch.

Wow.. on my 94 the front tank reads empty
all the time.. when I use the back tank
it pumps to the front tank .
Once I took apart this mechanism under
the drivers side and cleaned it up and it
stopped it for a bit.. but its back now.

I use the mileage to find out when to fill up,
with the spare few gallons in the back.
