ok im going to do some work in this thuck a tune up and i need to get more mpg im getteng 18 or so the truck i 2wd., 302, mas, e40d,long box now the truck goes prety good but not neerly good enuf i need more power and mpg what can i do cheap and fast??
If you're looking for mileage and power I would consider pulleys (quick easy and cheap), ignition mods (more money but worked well for me), and possibly an electric fan. I don't have an electric yet, but after a recent fan clutch problem determined that it doesn't take much to keep these trucks cool. A single Crown Vic junkyard fan would do fine, or even a single new electric of a lower CFM rating.
I'm assuming you are speaking of 18 mpg on the highway. If you're getting 18 combined just be happy.
My truck is an extended cab 4x4 with the 4R70W, and 3.31s (ugh). With my ignition (Jacobs), pulleys (FRPP), home grown intake mods, and Gibson cat back I can break 15 average around town and 20 on the highway. Pre mods I was lucky to crack 13 around town, but got about 18.5 or 19 on the highway. The largest contributors to the mileage where the ignition and the pulleys. The intake and exhaust did next to nothing for mileage.

if the cat is down-pipe from the O2 sensor then you should be ok. i just gutted my pre-cat and replaced the cat with a hi-flow one because we dont have anyemissions testing, but if you do you might fail the visual inspection when they see youve removed 1 cat. anyways, here is a link to my gallery, theres a bunch of pics of my airbox there (towards the bottom of the page) so you can check them outand you have an idea of what im talking about: https://www.f150online.com/galleries...w.cfm?num=1049 . good luck!
