Unhappy help with temp sender unit

Hey guys..

My "hot/cold" guage just stopped working.... Checked the fuses, and all look fine (plus the manual says one fuse covers all guages

Asked some guys and they said (correctly, I'm sure) it's most likely the temp sending unit.

Got out the manual, bought a replacement unit, and started hunting. Even with the manual, I can't find the #$*(#$ thing!

The thing I THOUGHT was the sensor is unreachable...not even a contortionist could touch it, let alone unscrew it...

Tried looking through the wheel well, saw nothin'.

If the thing I saw (which looks a lot like the replacement I bought) is the sensor, I just couldn't reach it. It was WAY at the back of the engine block, under where the exhaust leaves the engine. I got long arms, but no way could I touch it...

Anyway, unless someone's got a good idea, it might be a trip to the mechanic's, which sucks. I'm startin' to like doing this stuff myself!

Any help gratefully received, otherwise, thanks to those who offered tips...!

In the future, it would help if you told us which engine you had.
