Since that was made a few year's ago, the debt has grown from $14.271 Trillion to $16.93 Trillion, or the 'outstanding balance on the credit card' has grown another $27,000 to $169,xxx

Current 'family income' is $27,xxx and expenses are $35,xxx, so the annual deficit is 'only' $7,850 per year instead of $16,xxx/year. When we hear that the current administration cut the deficit in half this is what they mean. They must be so proud of the fiscal restraint, lol.

Current figures available at www.usdebtclock.org

Oh, and the debt is just money we have spent to date. If you want to see the even bigger problem, check out the unfunded future liabilities (which include social security, medicare, etc...) Currently over $120 Trillion (or $1.2 million for your family making $21,700, who now make $27,xxx in 2013).

BTW, $27,xxx is the MOST MONEY this 'family' has ever made in a year!

Clearly this 'family' does not have what it takes to live within its means. That will lead to bankruptcy. Sooner rather than later if they keep over spending and/or interest rates on the 'credit card' go up.

Good explanation, but alas, still too complicated for many in this country to understand.

But at least health care will be free now (snicker snicker).

Bingo.

obamacare, intentionally not capitalized, has now made it next to impossible to reverse. Mitch McConnell is a traitor to the people of this country and stabbed his constituents in the back. Same goes for every other fake "Republican" bastard who refused to have a set of nuts when the pressure was on. At least the liberals do what their supporters want them to do, ours won't even attempt to do that.

Its not that simple, kmac. Majority rules and unfortunately we have a split Congress - and 0bama breaks the tie. Compromise is REQUIRED right now.

They all knew these limits were facing us, yet Congress managed to take their traditional 5 week summer recess. These compromises should have been fashioned then.

Shoot, we have not had a budget in FIVE YEARS! These current jokes might has just tear up (what is left of) the Constitution.

Word is the new 'compromise' is to add almost another $1 Trillion to the debt limit (or $10,000 to the credit card limit).

Yeah, that's going to stop the overspending problem once and for all, lol.

I know compromise is needed, but this situation and all that has occurred is not acceptable. Refusing to fight at all (as a whole group) is NOT acceptable. I never expected us to get what we wanted, but this is comparable to a team being down by 2 touchdowns late is the 4th, with just a sliver of a chance at victory, and a handful of players striving for victory while the rest of the team sits on their asses and harps the handful for being stupid and fighting a losing battle. Alamo - same thing. It's the principle. I didn't elect people to represent me to have them go "oh, huh, we aren't the majority, so I'm just gonna do what the other people want to do." Democrats dictated Republican policy while they were a minority because Republicans aren't conservatives. A large majority is needed for Republicans to overcome their own idiot members as well as every one of the democrats.

After the lord and savior got re-elected, I said this all was done. The path we're headed down is irreversible, as is our debt, there's no doubt in my mind about either. As terrible as it sounds, I have lost my faith in the people of this country to do the right thing. Those with a brain on their shoulders are the ever-shrinking minority.

If reducing the national debt was even so much as on the first page of the to-do list, we wouldn't have passed obamacare. Instead of paying down the debt, we just took out a second mortgage on a vacation home when we aren't even making the payments on the first.

You are preaching to the choir. The Tea Party is fiscally 100% accurate, but in too much of a minority to get anything meaningful done.

Sadly, I know . . . This is why I have actually kept myself away from reading headlines, watching Fox, and the like. I care too much and it pisses me off like no other and ruins my whole day. So I just avoid it for my own well being, at the cost of being well-informed . . .

I don't need them to give a ___ about me.

Call me a dreamer, but all I ask is that they obey the Constitution and attempt to fulfill their oaths of office.

I know, I know, that's crazy talk.

Today, we get the President lecturing us about how the shutdown caused unnecessary damage to the economy.

Oh, tell us more, Mr. $1T deficit, Mr. rammer through of Obamacare on a Party line vote, Mr. blocker of the Keystone pipeline.

Pure theatrics. We are being played. By the democrats. By the republicans. By the media.

I thought a few years ago that eventually logic and reason would prevail. I was wrong. There is a large percentage of our population that doesn't have accurate representation. We'll either someday prevail with logic and reason, or be forced to surrender to socialism.

It's funny that national debt was a big concern in the last administration. I feel fortunate to have learned then that I need to have my personal finances in order. It seems that many in this country now believe that it's necessary to spend more than we take in.

I know nobody is representing me in Washington or Sacramento for that matter.

Looking more and more like third party time!

Senator Obama (Not President Obama):

'The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government can not pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that "the buck stops here." Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.'
