"The agreement continues information-sharing meetings and observation opportunities with first responders and emergency managers," the spokesman said."
Are we going to see uniformed Russians at events? No. Are we going to see non-uniformed Russian observers? Yes.
I've got some mixed feelings about this story.
I think the intent of the agreement is to share information and training techniques, including on how to respond to emergencies caused by terrorists at major events.
Certainly the kind of thing we should do with an ally.
But is Russia an ally?
When we give them info about our emergency response measures, we lose all control over who they share it with. Those planning an attack on us would love to have that info...
OTOH, the Russians have been dealing with terrorism and emergencies for a long time, so maybe the can give us some useful tips.
My problem is I've developed a distrust of large government. When they announce something new and say, 'Trust us, this is good for you', I automatically get suspicious.
