Might be an idea for a new reality tv show...old white men in the hood!
Didn't we already basically have a movie of that with Clint Eastwood in it?

Actually the lifeline program was begun during the Reagan administration and was expanded to include cell phones during the Clinton administration. I have a friend who has one. Vietnam veteran who has kidney failure. He needs the phone so they can notify him if his name comes up for a transplant. Obama didnt make the free phones happen.

True, but under him the number has almost doubled. From 7.1 million in 2008 to 12.5 million now. Cost went from 772 million to 1.6 billion. And from 7 million households to 17 million today. Cost is expected to reach 3.3 billion by 2014 if reforms are not done.

I was reading up on the sequestration, interested in whether Obama phones would have exempt status or be subject to a cut.

Guess what! They aren't even in the Budget, ...and after all this whining and carrying on about them.

Obama phones are funded by a consumer tax on your phone bill.
Don't want provide Obama phones? Just cancel your phone service and your Obama phone tax goes away forever!

USA! USA!

Exactly. A tax on a necessity in the 21st century.

I can't win a debate with you on whether a phone is a necessity.
(The Obama phone is screwing me on that point)

Just thought it was interesting the $16 trillion debt and the Obama phone are often mentioned in the same conversation when actually one has nothing to do with the other.

Right. And I made that point in an earlier post in another thread about the bushphones/obamaphones. You're restating the obvious.

In the end. it's still a tax. "The power to tax is the power to destroy."

I read most all your stuff and I didn't see that.
Anyway I didn't know it until yesterday, sorry if everybody else did.
I'm not trying to irritate you Frank.

They may be mentioned in the same conversation but I don't remember ever being lead to believe that the Obama phone came out of the budget. It's been made clear, at least as far as where I was seeing the information, that the Obama phone was being paid for from the tax on our phone bill. It was also mentioned that the tax started under Reagan, before cell phones where items owned by most people.

The redistribution is taking place. If you are for it, then you're pretty happy right now. If you think that dependence on the government is not a good thing, you're probably wondering if, based on the results of the election, this country will be able to reverse the dependency before the money runs out.

They are going to raise taxes on "the rich". They are also going to continue to nickel and dime us to death. I wonder if striving for success is even worth it anymore.

Unless people raise hell and rally for a government overhaul, I doubt we'll get much of anywhere.

And what do you think put them there and will forever keep them there. Public assistance. The slavery the dems want to keep them in.
