It's an iPod/MP3 adapter with a few different options for playing and connecting. It also includes a screen with Artist/Song/Album layout. Here are some shots when I had it installed.

so basically it hooks into the factory headunit and you can run your ipod through it and you use the contol to change songs?

Right. There are 3 different ways it can connect: 1. via the minijack connection like my 08 has, 2. wireless FM transmitter built into the brain, or 3. an optional wired FM transmitter (sold separately). I had it connected via the minijack obviously. And you change songs/folders via the little round joystick.
