Doubled down
Doubled down
I got the one buck I'm allowed back in early archery season, but the does have been alluding me. Went out Friday and doubled down on the antlerless deer. I was using a Marin 1894c in .357 magnum, with a Millett red dot, using 180 gr Buffalo Bore bullets. The first shot was ~30-40yds. The big doe went about 30 yds after being shot and stopped, and I put another round in her for assurance. I was about to put a third round in her, but she started doing the death dance.
I waited patiently because I wasn't sure where the rest of the does went, and about 5 minutes later a button buck stepped into the same lane where I had just taken the first doe. He dropped in his tracks, and I put another round in him to assure he wasn't getting up.
With two deer in the freezer, and two more hanging in the barn, I think it's time to call it a season, and bust out the shotgun for waterfowl!

Good job! I've been trying to get one with my bow since September but haven't shot one yet. Duck season opened up yesterday in GA so I will probably only deer hunt a handful of times the rest of the season.
I need to get my duck stamp this week and knock a few of the over abundant Canada honkers out of the sky.
It took me 3yrs to finally nab one with the good ole Hoyt!. I just love archery, you see so many more deer and alot less hunters. Rifle season is like WW2 here in PA. We have some horrible hunters in PA. If its brown it goes down! Plus a big problem with poaching, BIG TIME!
Normally the best week to hunt around here is the week leading up to firearm season. After the first weekend of firearm everything seems to go nocturnal, and it sounds like a war zone.
This year really hasn't been like that. I only heard three shots opening morning, and I had to let a descent buck walk. The next day I had to let a real nice buck walk and didn't hear any shots. I was out Wednesday and heard a couple of shots, and missed a doe (the next day I verified zero and discovered my red dot was hitting ~5 inches low). On Friday, I had 5 or 6 does come to me with an hour of legal light left, got these two, and I didn't hear any other shots.
I don't know what is going on this year, but I'm not complaining!
