Your best bet to find one is to be at a shop when a shipment arrives. I just got back from a trip from Augusta, GA to NE Louisiana, and then up to Little Rock, AR to visit family, and we probably hit 15-20 gun stores on the way looking for ARs, a mini14, ammo, and bolt carrier groups. We were able to find 1 mini 14 at sporting goods store in LA, then we found 2 bolt carrier groups and 30 cases of ammo at Macks Prarie Wings in AR, and we think we came accross some ARs in Little Rock. We made a quick stop at a gun shop as we were leaving Little Rock and a big order arrived while we were in the store and the guy said he thought there was some ARs in there, but it would be several hours before they would be processed and brought out. We didn't physically put our hands on a single AR the whole trip. Like everybody said, wait for the hype to die down and good luck.

I'm afraid that there's little chance of that. No less than ten guns bills were introduced in Congress yesterday. Eight are anti-gun and two to ban "gun-free" school zones. http://thinkprogress.org/politics/20...art-gun-bills/ Prices will only go up until these bans are defeated (if they are). By then the high prices or at least higher prices will be permanent. I'm not trying to drive the prices any higher than they already are but prices may not come down! ARs used to be $450 to $600 before the first ban and prices jumped to $1200 or so during the ban and only dropped to about $900 even eight years after the ban expired.

I went a gun show this morning. It opened at 8AM and I got there at about 9:15 and the line line was at least four times longer than I've ever seen before! I left at 12:30 and it was still almost as long! Obama is by far the BEST thing that's ever happened for the gun manufacturers and sellers in this country! Oh, AR were selling for at least $1900 each this morning. I saw several that sold for that and didn't see anyone asking for less (except ones using .22LR). Also saw a HUGE! line of people waiting for back ground check approval. I think today will be a record day for gun sales!

You can call me crazy or tell me that I'm trying to start a panic but I've been through this before and to tell the truth I have all the "assault weapons" and ammo that I will ever need and I rarely buy or sell guns any more so I don't have anything to gain by exaggerating this. It's just the way that I see it.

After reading those 10 bills, there is so much that can be said about how uninformed the lawmakers who wrote them are. All I have to say is that I am glad we have plenty of firearms and ammo, but it can't hurt to have more.

Is it a mere coincidence that all of them were started by someone with (D) after their name?

Honestly. All ar's are good. If you are shooting crap ammo just for plinking I would def look for one that has chrome lined barrel for sure. My del-ton dt sport really got my attention because of more mill spec parts and other different features and not to mention the lifetime warranty.

and don't think there aren't a few gun retailer associations who are'nt part of this (perception frenzie) to drive the prices up also......well known & documented especially when the bills are written in such a way that it could never have a chance of passing or almost 100% chance of the courts throwing it out............

I found a decent stash of Glock 19 mags... if anyone needs one (or 10) let me know. They're not Glock brand... but, pre-ban.... they may be nice to have even if it's only as emergency back-ups.

I also snared a few AR mags... now, if I can get an AR (they seem to be showing up a little more often now... seems supply is VERY slowly starting to catch up. Now...if 5.56 NATO rounds will catch up with demand.

I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon. I just went to a big gun show this past weekend and it was FLOODED with buyers. Over 12,000 on the first day alone. The asking price for .223 was typically $900/1000 rnds and that was for imported stuff! The BEST price that I saw was $700 for 9000 rounds, again imported stuff in a crappy looking box. I didn't see any US or other quality made stuff. and it wasn't just .223 that was hard to get, ALL ammo was way up. Even the strange oddball stuff that few people want was up. It looks like most ammo was double the price over what it was a few months ago and all the popular calibers hard to find. There's been a lot of speculation over the last several years that ammo has been hard to find and expensive due to the amount that's going to Iraq and Afganistan but that should be way down due to troop withdrawals but ammo was still expensive even before the Ct shootings but now it's much worse. People are definitely stocking up and preparing for the worse.

If you want ammo for the future I'd suggest buying powder, primers, reloadable brass and reloading equipment now while you still can and be prepared to make your own in the future. Reloading didn't make sense when ammo was 15 cents a round but at ~$1 per round it certainly does and with all the talk of bans it may be the only way that you'll be able to get any.

Walmart here in Athens, Tx received 7 guns selling at $800 each. One guy bought all 7 within 30 minutes.

I was just in a gun show in Lebanon PA this Saturday, I picked up 500rds of 5.56 for $300. Yes there were allot of people there but there was no shortage of ammo thats for sure. I paid a little more than I thought I ever would but for $300 for 500rds as of now is a steal.

Looks like you missed the boat RP.

At the gun show in Dec I was able to get 1k 5.56 for $440, going to the one this weekend just to see how crazy things have gotten. If I see an AR there that's under $1k I'll let you know, but last time they were running at least $1,250 for the basic Rock River Arms AR.

I did manage to score a bunch of 30rd mags before they all disappeared.

Went to gun show this weekend, every AR was $1700 and up, ammo and magazines were ridiculous.

I didn't go to ours for that very reason. I also heard rumors they (the vendors) were limited people to 50rds. Not sure if that was multiple vendors or just the one I heard of.

Might have been the last chance in a while to pick up a modern day musket though.

I hear ya. I just went to a show yesterday. Once I finally got inside (that was the longest line to get in I've ever seen!), the cheapest lower I saw was $800! A stripped lower I was looking at from PSA about 2 months ago was more than tripled in price.

Also, reloading components are impossible to find now and waaaayyyyy to much. This thing needs to blow over quick so I can afford to go to the range again...
