High centered, bent crossmember.

So I high centered my truck last night at the lake. I bent that crossmember under the transmission pretty bad. It sounds like there's a grinding noise when I accelerate. I'm gonna take it to my buddy's shop tomorrow but what do you think could be wrong? maybe the transfer case is moved? ugh the dumb crap you do to impress a woman lol.

Well the first thing you might want to check is how tight is the nut that connects the steering wheel to the gas pedal!

After that it looks like the trans is riding higher than it should be. It could be touching the bottom of the body and giving you the noise, plus the trans mount is probably shot too. That would allow the trans/transfer case to move when you accelerate.

How fast were you going? That looks ugly.

Then after all that............was she impressed?

Lol all to impress a girl well not to hate but by the looks of the pics she most likely wasnt haha. Ive done the same stuff on my quad to impress some girls and flipped it down a ditch and it landed one me...Now about the task at hand it looks pretty bent it looks a bit worse than mine did. I had to replace that part because it knocked everything out of alignment. If there is a grinding noise theres no doubt something is not in the right spot I would put it on a lift and see if it is binding anywhere. If there is some junk yards near you, you could prob get one from there for cheap I got mine for 20 bucks... good luck its all part of the game

Yeah when I drove it, it felt like the transfer case was engaged....Thank you guys for the advice. I'll keep you posted on the verdict.

If you have a manuel shifter on the transfer case it very well could be engaged, or partially engaged. Drive it as little as possible until you figure what is out of whack, just so you don't do even more damage.

Good luck.

I would not drive that truck at all and have it towed to a shop, I would be worried about what else the force got tranfered to when you bent the cross member. Look at the bell housing for cracks, motor mounts, exhaust, drive shafts, and anything else that the trans could have tranfered the impact to. I know when my buddy did crap like that to his race car it meant 6 nights on creepers with drop lights going over the car doing an inspection and fixing what we found it would have been better if he just smacked the wall or another car.

Nice looking Flareside from the top side though.

Is that the first time the bottum has been bashed in? You maybe got lucky and a new mount and a good crossmember from JY might fix it but I would have looked at everything good before driving it. No leaks though ....

I'ld also replace any thing else banged up under there while doing the crossmember.

I found a trans crossmember from an 03 f150, do you think that would fit an 04?

the chassis is the same regardless of engine set up. Any 04-06 piece should work.
