Recovery Straps

Well im in the market for a set of recovery straps and D-ring shackles. Im not going to be going offroad regularly, but I do want some to use if needed on those days I get bored and want to play a little. And to help the chevys when they get stuck of course. What do you guys suggest brand wise and for weight limit? I figure the best people to ask were offroaders.

Thanks

ProComp has a nice line of straps, they prbably don't make them but they are nice straps. I'd shoot for 35K lbs. No sense in having anything your worried about breaking. Expect to pay $100+.

Thanks FX41. I had ProComp and ARB in mind for the 2 highest quality straps. Price is no worry either, because I want it done right and safely. So I will get whatever it takes.

Both are great straps. Either will do the job just fine.

I actually found procomp 30k lbs. straps for ~$73, which I think is not bad. Now onto shackles, all the ones I have been finding are less then 10k lbs. Does that seem right to be using with a 30k lbs. strap? Shouldn't they be about equal, maybe not, but thats what would make sense to me.

I would want more than 10K for the shakles I wouldn't want the weak link in the big piece of metal.

my d-link is 10k pounds.

havent broke it yet. (and i broke the hitch right out from under the truck) so i dont think it will be too much of a problem for your truck as mine weighs over 5500#'s

but either way, try looking at Fastenal (spl) google it and search their if anyone has a BIG d-link it will be them.

I am very familiar with Fastenal, They supply all our hardware where I work. I looked at their website and for a 34k lbs. shackle, it would be 84 bucks each. Which I think is a bit less reasonable, considering the strap itself costs less than one shackle. Also the pin that the shackles has in it would be too big for the application I am thinking of. Im thinking of going to tractor supply and getting whatever a decently sized one they have is. I just got a 1/2" shackle for my lawn tractor and I remember they had some that were quite a bit bigger. The half inch had a working load limit of 6250 lbs. I bet the bigger ones they have are plenty more than that and some of the way cheaper also.

You get what you pay for. I have been through at least 5 ($20) Keeper brand straps (the kind you get Kragens/Checkers/Home Depot. You want reinforced Loop-Ends. I reinforce mine with ducttape (wrap the crap out of them) so they don't get frayed. It's lasted at least 30 pulls (it's a procomp w/reinforced loopends).

i have some strap thats rated around 30k and probly 35-40ft long. make sure to take care of your strap so it last.

as for d-rings, gets something that you can put into your reciever and also use on your tow hooks if you have to be pulled from the front, and ALWAYS hold the d-ring not the strap. i got a nice dent in my tail gate now cuz i wasn't thinking.

I found some shackles at tractor supply that are 15k lbs. They look pretty good. I think they are $15 a piece. Which I think is not bad. Ill probably pick up a couple and get me that procomp strap. I like those shackles that fit into the receiver. Ill probably get one of those also. THEN I should be set to pull out any chevy needed!
