survival kits?

So, I was going to gather some items for a survival kit/pack for my truck.

Does anyone have a survival kit or anything like that in there trucks?
If so what are some items you have or have used often?

Thinking of stuff like:

First aid kit
lighter
flashlight
knife
etc...

Wasn't sure much should be in it.

Thanks,

I currently have a small first aid kit in my truck but will get another larger one with better stuff in it when I do my fire extinguisher install soon.

Gonna mount one either on floor in rear or in a protecting box inside the bed.

I never figured ot why people want to carry everything but the kitchen sink. When was the last time anyone went far enough into the woods, other than a camping trip, that required all that stuff? I've only ever carried a first aid kit and fire extinguisher on the truck, except for an occasional axle shaft or hub. Biggest thing is to never wheel by yourself, and if you get hurt there is someone to get you out of the park. I have yet to ever get disabled to the point where I couldn't make it out of the park in the same day either under my own power or getting drug out. I don't have alot of room in the truck and like to travel light.

i mostly carry the stuff i carry for hunting season but it never leaves the truck.

Ive also been on a few weekend trail rides down in River Ranch. No dont need these things but i like havin them. makes things easier. My stuff is mostly for wheelin purposes than anything else.

but i do agree the majority dont need items like this in their everyday truck.

i really need to get ahold of a fire extinguisher, not sure where mine wandered away too.

BTW hows the project going?

i agree and dont keep it in there all the time. i know first hand that the stuff i take saves lives so i think they are a worthwhile space taker on our highway trips. if i went wheelin' i dont know what i would bring... i tend to over pack stuff like this when we convoy (military) or take our vacation trips

I put together a smallish bag that I keep in the truck but is easily thrown into my quad's bag when I'm taking it out into the bush. Used a 2 liter water resistant drybag. Both the truck and the quad have their own First Aid Kit. Large one for the truck and a outdoorsman type for the quad.

2 liter Drybag Contains:
Suvival Blanket, Whistle, Lensatic Compass, Thermometer, Safety Pins, Pencil, Notepad, Water Purification Tablets, Glow Sticks, Emergency Poncho, Flashlight, Signal Mirror, Tube Tent, 50' of Paracord, Hand Warmers, Knife, Multi-Tool, Ziploc Bags, Trash Bags, Toilet Paper, Wet-Fire Tinder, Doan Fire Starter, Steel Wool, 9v Batteries, Saber Saw, Waterproof Matches, & Duct Tape.

Also going between truck and quad us a Folding Shovel, Fire Extinguisher, Hatchet, Binoculars, and 2 U.S. Military MRE's.

.

Wow guys, I carry a cell phone, lol. I wish I had room for all of that stuff. I guess I have a few knives, flashlight, a leatherman, water, towels, random hand tools, and just random stuff.

Some great ideas.
I have started making a list and figure I will come up with a bag to have in the truck that stays in the truck, but also have bag/crate that I will take when going camping/trail riding.
With my truck being a Std cab/short bed I don't have tons of extra space, so I will have to be smart about it.

Thanks for the great info!

Medium size tool kit and biggest first aid kit I could find both picked up at Sam's Club. Wool blanket, hd tow strap, jack stands, hi-lift jack, flat nose shovel, boat load of ratchet straps, 100' rope, glow sticks, a few knives and flashlights. Spare tire that won't fit under the truck. A box full of bottled water and some long life food when it's storm season. Course I need them for what I do just glad I haven't needed to use this stuff yet. I have pulled a few dummies out of ditches though.

i currently just carry a few basics. i have my tool kit, all my tie-downs and bungees mainly and most important, a sweatshirt, extra pair of pants and shoes. never know what will happen. got stuck in my old truck one night over summer and was wearing flip flops and my feet and legs were covered in mud and the shoes and pants would have come in handy

I believe it was Petersens 4wheel and off road or fourwheeler but recently they did an article on the basics that are good to have when wheeling. Most have been covered here already but things like a can of food or two and stuff like that.

OK, I went to the local "Megalow Mart" yesterday with my wife. I decided to see what kind of stuff I could find for my survival kit.

I got a 200+ piece First Aid kit from the camping section for $15.99.

a "Survival Bottle" in the automotive section for $6.99

I have also been collecting other odd and ends: Hand warmers, towelettes, Fishing kit, etc...

I will get a few pictures and let everyone know what I got and what I still want to get.
