TX panhandle offroading
Last weekend was the "Canadian River sand drags: off road rally
Was about 30 miles north of Amarillo, TX
sand drags, mud bog, trailriding, rock crawling, and what I call "the red neck parade" which is an endless line of trucks driving up and down the river.
I snapped a few pictures. I evidently forgot to take some of the sea of hundreds of RVs and people. Was estimated at 15,000 people.
Biggest downturn was someone decided that they needed my quad ramps more than I did. Which left me alone, after dark, and with no way to get my 800 lb quad into my truck to go home. With the help of a couple strangers and their trailer we managed to manhandle it into the truck.
Got to see plenty of carnage and too many stuck vehicles to count. Even a brand new lifted Excusion burried to the axles.
I wheeled my truck on Friday and my quad on Saturday but was so busy looking around I forgot to take pictures of them...

They just call it the Canadian River. Or around we just call it the river. you know...since there is only one within a couple hundred miles LOL.
It's on U.S. 287 about 30 miles north of Amarillo. No web site. The western half is state land and the eastern half is part of the Lake Meredith National Recreation Area. It runs right under the highway so it's very easy to find. There are trails going everywhere but there are zero trail markers or difficulty warnings.
No facilities and no website. The group that hosts the sand drags is an Amarillo 4x4 group. They were supposed to have a web site but it's been down for a while.
Some of them do some talking here. texas4x4.org

I was having so much fun wheeling I forgot to take pictures. hehe
These are all I have.
On that white one with a stripe. It's from my hometown I think. I'll try to grab a picture next time I see it somewhere. It's actually a crew cab Chevy. They back halfed it into a truggy of sorts. has a coil spring rear end if I remember right.
You have no idea. I went today and dropped too much $$$ to get some new ramps to replace the stolen ones and get the quad out of the truck. Managed to get the quad cleaned up at least before dark. The truck is so nasty it'll be a multiple day job.
