A nice chuckle

This story might not be considered "really" off road. However it does involve a dirt parking lot, a decent snow, and a stuck so here it is.

I go to Taos N.M. to ski opening weekend. Miraculously it drops 8 inches of powder the night before we get there. So I'm completely stoked. We get to the lodge (about 1 1/2 miles from the lifts) and check in. It's still about an hour before the lifts close so I decide to take my son (who is on his first ski trip) to see the mountain early. I have zero troubles in the snow even up the lodge's steep drive and miniscule parking lot. But, as we were walking out of the parking lot I hear the unmistakable sound of tires spining, stopping, and spinning again. Thought oops someone is stuck. I looked a little harder and find two guys in a brand new Jeep commander. One inside rocking it back and fourth and one outside giving directions (both were mostly speaking in "dudespeak")

This is where I start to chuckle. That "JEEP" is completely stuck in 4 inches of snow! I walk up to help and realize that only the left rear tire is spinning. No 4x4 and not even L.S.
After a little help and still stuck I ask if it's in 4 wheel drive. Which he responds "Dude! It's an all wheel drive. It's allways in 4 wheel drive." I tell him that I don't think that this vehicle comes in all wheel drive, but I'm just a country boy from the flatlands...what do I know.
After a few more minutes of pushing we get him out of the snow (in 2 wheel drive) and he's on his way and very appreciative.

My thoughts were either he bought a 4x2 thinking it was AWD, or he doesn't know he has to actually push the 4x4 button. Either way he'll be in that predicament again fairly soon.

My friend was with me and said "the snow under your truck is twice as thick, I hope we don't have any troubles getting it out......"

That bought out a "big" chuckle and just said in a very heartfelt and concerned way "me too".

Nice on Giant ! Shows why we call em a Heep. Just Empty Each and Every Pocket.

Just so ya know, it most likely was an AWD vehicle. Jeep is making more and more AWD options, for these rich yuppies "to get to the snow". See what good it does. I had an ole video of a Land Rover or Range rover stuck in a couple inches of mud, same thing. Funny stuff.

Totaly possible. My only basis was going on the Jeep website and look there and didn't see anything that said AWD. just 4x4. of course they could call thier awd 4x4 for all I know. But even then to only spin one tire on snow? That's beyond bad for something badged "trail ready". Thing isn't even parking lot ready.

So, they aren't even ready for mall crawling ??

Ya, awd is useless !! Generally only one tire at a time gets traction. Obviously the one tire that is slipping gets it !

Anyways, the boy have a good first ski trip ??

hell, even my 03 wrangler in 4x4 sucked in the snow/mud...

the wheel base is so short that it fishtailed realy easy... it was hard to keep it facing the right way in 2wd... There is no l/s so when i put the jeep in our ditch to fix a sign and back up, 2 wheels spun, front and rear,,, the 2 tires with traction where helpless... had to get my dad's f-250 to pull me out... and did so at an almost idle....

2 weeks later i traded it in for my 150... and it is 10x better on and off road
