2WD offroading tips please
The south side of higgins lake Milltary Road its off of 127 or 427 i cant rember. theres some trails going all threw the woods in there and some trails put you on the back side of Camp grayling Mortar range 13. Theres a few big sand hills were they test there hummers and tanks. the one we play on is like a 45-50* incline lol how far u think my 2WD will make it up that? haha Thanks for all the tips guys i should be goood to go when the time comes. I looked at the breather on my trans and if i put a hose on it can it still open? it has to pop up inorder to work how do i put a hose around it since i cant put a clamp on it?
yes thats what the breather on my trans does. That prob lead to my trans blowing up i went mudding a few times and didnt know were it was well when we droped it the breather was so caked with mudd it couldnt open. so im sure that didnt help matters. But yes it opens up but if its not hott enogh it will stay sat down on the trans.
Drill, tap and screw in a barb fitting. Do it now or have the rebuilder do it when he has your transmission on his work bench. Check with a knowledgeable shop that knows 4x4s and have him look for a 4x4 breather set up.

A breather basically allows for expansion of air under different circumstances. When it heats up, the air expands, making the acordian breather expand. When it cools back down, it pulls that breather back in. No outside air is pulled in, its a sealed unit. Many off roaders run this on their difs, trans, T-case etc. Its pretty common.
for that spark plug problem you mentioned earlier, using dielectric grease would probably help prevent any issues.
Thanks a bunch guys now i just need some tires...BAD! the middle tread on my tire is no longer there its flat now but i have some tread on the outside part of the tire. anyone have some old 265/75/R16's or anything R16 that would fit under my back tires there lookin to get rid of? Whats the biggest tire i can run on the back im not worryed about the fronts my buddy has some old like 305 or 315/75/R16 off his old truck would these fit on the front? i dont think i can go any bigger than 265 on the fronts. my truck isnt lifted at all its stock heght. Thanks guys.
there's no way in hell a 315-75-16 will fit on a stock 2WD. Even on a 4WD, fully cranking the torsion bars, you will still have fitment issues. that's like a 35'' tire. i doubt a 305 will clear either. you could probably get by with a 285. i recommend you buy a body lift if you want to stuff a tire that big in there for cheap, and a leveling kit.
a body lift is <$200. you can make them look pretty good, if you take your time. yes, the install is time consuming and a PITA, but I have faith you could put one on w/ a buddy, after all you dropped and reinstalled your transmission...

They were 305's but that no longer matters im helping a guy move and he gave me a choice Free gas and pay me what i made for helping him move about 220 bucks Or Free gas and 4 brand new 265/75/R16 BFG A/T's? im thinking the full tank of gas and 4 tires because i need tireds badddly. i did find soem cooper discoverys 235/85/R16 but only 2 of them. im really thinking of going for the tires because thats easily over 400 bucks and my back left tire has no tread now and its scary to drive in the rain....
My buddy and his dad put a 10" lift on his dad's truck then on his old bronco they did a soild axle swap and a 12" lift so im pretty sure they could pull off a small body lift lol. But i prob wont do this i dont go threw enogh mud. Thanks again guys

I'm sure you and your friends are great mechanics but what if you brerak something you can't fix, or requires an extensive repair...now your out your daily driver.
That's all I'm saying.
well me and my dad have never been able to not fix something so i dont see that happening. and dude its the mounds. mud. sand dunes are up farther. and i do understand the worry of not wheeling your dd but i dont have the money for 2 cars and dont really see the need. if your careful then there will be no problems. i go wheelin everytime with the intent of breaking something. ive ripped bumpers off and blew trans up. always made it home after. it may take a few minutes longer but we will get it home and i have a machine shop in the garage so i think we have that covered
Yeah if we break somthing we cant fix we got some issuses...transfercases in 4* middle of winter in michigan...the jack falling and me holding the transfer case-trans and hte back of the motor...while u were laghing and slowly fixin the jack ah good times. We did your bronco trans my trans longtubes in like 2 hours on your truck. and countless radators E-fan's i think if soemthing breaks we can figure it out im not to worryed about it. Oh the mounds are mud?...i knew that so were trailerin your truck to the mounds...whos pullin it? Popy's truck? or mine? lol gotta bolt that rollbar in and wire it right after i help you clean up a lil bit.

Air down, again I would run 12-15 psi, depending if I have tire spoons and an air compressor. Don't know how to use the spoons ? PRACTICE !!!! lol
People don't like to wheel their DD because it adds a ton of stress, and headaches. You HAVE to wheel the trails, and you HAVE to get back home. Hard sometimes. that why I tow my rig up now, its easy. I wheel, I break, I get tugged back, get er on the trailer, and go home. I can wheel as hard as I want now. Wheeling and crawlin in the rocks, this tends to be much more necessary vs. mud and light trails. I wheeled for years before I began the trailer route. There are clubs and forums dedicated to the guy who wheels and drives home. Its very respectful.
BTW, we have done everything from change out the ECM, t-case, transmission, front/rear ends, we have welded up spider gears, and ring gear teeth to get home. I have driven home with out being able to turn left, running on a couple cylinders, basically limping home (the list goes ON and ON). I can't imagine anything that you can't repair. You crack the block maybe.... even that can be fixed, usually enough to get you home.
