The thing with that is. You have the winch when you need it and you can transfer it front to back if you have cable's from the battery running out to the rear hitch. When you are done you can stow it in the toolbox or wherever you need it. They have a hitch for a 2wd expedition would that be usable on 2wd f150's ??

I have a couple coworkers who are in med school. I work part 911 and part medical transport. The benefit to working transport is you deal with ALOT of different meds. You get very familiar with medications and the associated conditions. I would go for it. EMT-B is only a 6 month course, and if your medically inclined then it should be easy. The thing that sucks about Cali is the EMS system there is falling apart. Full time Paramedics (2 year degree) make around $9.00 working in LA. The other thing is you will need to get your emergency vehicle DL. Cali is believe is the only state that requires it.

Why not just go for the 9500? It's perfect for your truck. A good winch should be about 1.5xGVW
You missed where i said i was going with a custom bumper.

And I dont believe in "overkill" how can you Kill anything more than dead?

I believe Klitch has the 9500 or maybe the 8500 and he said it has trouble pulling his truck.

And if i ever do my SAS project and possible Diesel engine swap i want enough power to pull that also.

Id rather have a winch with HIGH Capabilities then one that might not be enough.

I could literally pull myself out of nearly any situation.

The one thing i really base this off of is that when i wheel i usually wheel with 1 other person or by myself. But lets say i need to pull my buddy out of the mud and i get stuck well the 16.5 could pull me and my buddy out at the same time if its a must. Hope that makes sence.

Well it doesn't really make sence. But it does make sense

JP, I see your point with having the 16.5. I would rebuild the front end first before I went and threw on a custom bumper and huge winch. That's a lot of weight for the front to handle.

No way he needs the 16.5ti. I have that on my 8000 pound F350 PSD. A 97 150 doesnt need that much pull, a short drum 9 or 10.5 would do just fine. And the WARN hidden mount is a beautiful piece. Just be careful, cuz these things add weight. Mine added ~400 pounds, and I needed a 2.5 inch spacer to get it back to stock.

my warn 9.5ti has problems on some things with my truck, im also running a single battery which is probably not helping any. i remember being stuck perpendicular to a road on ice/snow and it took a bit of work from the winch to get me up the embankment. it never stopped spooling but it did slow way down. i was downhill about 5 feet from the road and probably 3 feet below the level of the road at my front bumper.

if i would have ****** blocked it, that would have made a difference for sure.

Dont get me wrong i never told him to go with that, and if i did i was mistaken.

But honestly id go with a 9.5ti or bigger plain and easy.

If you read about my recovery tactics then you will understand why im getting the biggest i can. Plus the trucks i work with are 2wd F350 or F450's that are close to 12k and they get stuck on slopes often and if need be its cheaper to go to the shop and get my truck and give them alittle help.

I garuntee that 8k would not pull your PSD up an embankment or slope. And i wouldnt put money on it if your truck is up to the doors in mud. Unless you where in gear.

Hey sorry if you took that as me railin on you. I wasnt, just letting him know that the feeling on this thread of him needing that winch is not true, and I dont want him to spend that much money when he could get away with 500-1000 dollars less winch. Plus the weight of that bad boy will murder a 150. My 350 with the snow plow coils and the heavy service spring status drooped an inch and a half when I tossed it on.

EDIT: My truck weighs 8k, not the winch. The winch is a WARN 16.5ti in the semi hidden mount they sell, or the winch of discussion in this topic. I completely agree, a 15k minimun winch is needed for my truck. But the 16.5 and 15 sell for the same and weigh the same, so I figured what the heck.

yeah i feel you, i know that puts a crap load of stress on everything. im just saying if all else fails it will still beable to get me out.

(Kinda like when i blew my engine last month and i was sitting in waste high water/mud) Get my drift.

Im not sure if anyone else does it but at huntin camp in waycross GA my truck is the only one people trust taking out to put a stand up (not because its an offroad beast but because its the only one with MT's and 4x4) But one thing i use my winch on my ranger for was to help put up deer stands. And it comes in handy.

Now that i dont have my Ranger anymore i was forced to use a 4wheeler and i almost went airborn trying to hold the box stand.

Ok ok now i see what you where saying. And i agree he can get away with MUCH less than the 16.5ti

Yeah the only real option that i can think of for my needs would be the 12k Warn but i figure the 15k or 16.5ti would put up with more abuse?
