2wd :(
dont ask me how i got into this. this is bolivar peninsula (crystal beach) Tx

and my mexican friend about to hook up the chains...

about 4 hours later my truck was 3 inches under water while the tow trucks were pulling it. spent 15 dollars at the car wash using quarters and 150 at the ford dealership for a new bumper because mine got pulled off.

Ouch, yeah not the best place for a stock 2wd to go.. even a stock 4x4 looks like it would of gotten stuck. Soft sand like that is meant for lifted trucks with meaty tires.. sorry bout your luck.

No matter what you use you have to be careful, because either will hurt you if you don't use them right.

some other things to think about since it was in some sandy/salty water:
1. repack front wheel bearings.
2. Change rear end gear oil.
I had an old buddy who went wheeling one rainy night in a potato field down south. nothing but sand and water......... ended up replacing hubs/bearings on the front. that thing looked like your truck on the beach, but i bet you did'nt have an angry farmer chasing you down sayin " oh i'll get it out for you" with a big a$$ tractor!

hahahaha nice my buddy got stuck behide a school we were suprised the cops didnt get called because people up there are really nosiy and quick to call the cops. but that was about 3-4 hours of funn and about a 60 foot tow strap haha. his truck was even ment to mudd 6inch lift and 4x4 but his 4x4 is messed up because of the angle of the front drive shaft.

I go out there quite a bit, did ya find that hole on the far side of the beach away from the ferry? WE were playing there last year and stuck a 3/4 chevy so bad it took 1 Rubicon and 1 Wrangler on 33"s to get him out. They wouldnt let me strap the Ford up because he would not allow a Ford to pull him out. The best way out of that is to dig the area infront of each tire out them pull
