Rear Tow Hooks

I have an 05 FX4 and I had the Warn Transformer brushguard installed. During the installation my factory tow hooks were removed and new ones were installed with the brush guard. Is it possible to install the factory tow hooks on the rear of the truck? Where would be the best place to install them so that they are functional but would not cause any damage when used? Finally, what type of hardware (bolt strength) should I use to install them?

Oh one more thing, my truck does have the factory towing package also.

Thanks for the help.

$29 at Northern Tool and you're done, 5 ton strength, more than your hitch.
As a plus, you can store it under your seat rather than get a permanent crescent tattoo on your shin and what is not seen is not stolen.

I have a receiver ($10 at TSC) a clevis and a hitch pin to do any work that needs done with a chain, pretty much like Jolly's setup minus the fancy thing for the receiver and the screw in pin. Knocking on wood I haven't used it to to be pulled, but I have done alot of pulling with it and it works fine. I like it because minus the receiver I can use it on other things too, like a tractor.

I used a pair of SuperDuty tow hooks bolted to the trailer hitch. Grade 8 bolts should do it.

Raoul,

Yeah I had thought of that too but I have a White Night backup light installed and most of the reciever type tow hooks that i have seen do not have enough distance to clear it. Sorry fo leaving that bit of information out of my original post.

JMC,

That is what I was picturing but I was very concerned about weakening the reciever if I did that. Thanks for the pics of your layout. I am going to see if I can do something similar to my truck.

No need for tow hooks when you have a hitch, reciever, and shackle.

Paul, if you think of anything clever to do with them, let me know. I have an extra set of black OEM tow hooks for the front of my truck. I took them off of my old 2000 when I got rid of it.

I've been thinking of a way put them in on the back of my truck too, without weakening anything and without making it look stupid.

The same tow hook can be bought at Harbor Freight for $9.99. Scored one for myself yesterday.

jk007,

Actually I got under the truck the other day and took a look at the reciever. Since I have the OEM towing package, what JMC did does not look like it would work. I was thinking about getting some Grade 8 squared off U-bolts to go around the reciever's square tubing. It looks like it might work but the tow hooks would be at a slight angle. Anyhow, I am going to mock something and snap some pictures. Then I need to find someone way smarter than me to figure out if it is at all a functional idea.

I hear you. I'd love to see some pics when you get a chance if you go that route.

Even with the $7 shipping that's still a bargain.

I bookmarked that site.

Not sure where you are located but they do have stores too, that would take shipping out of the picture. They have a store locator on their site.
