Thumbs up Custom bumpers

Ok Brad, as the reigning *** Chief I order you to make sure bambi's dead next time you hit one with the apparatus! I smacked a yearling one night returning from an EMS/first responder call. Never ceases to amaze me how they decide to run towards the bright, loud fire truck... Pushed her down the road a ways before I actually ran over the poor thing. Being in a rural area of Texas we put "deer slayers" on all our trucks even though the deer here average a paltry 100 - 120 lbs.

The real reason behind my post is to enquire whether or not you'd share or sell the plans for your bumper? I got no problem paying you and while I could design my own I'd probably have to build 2 or 3 before all the pieces finally matched up.

I'd have to fab a pre-runner style hoop in the center to give me enough mounting space for the woo-woo lights I'm running and I'm planning on a pair on KC lights so I can spot those deer farther down the road.

Every other deer I ever hit was in my '64.5 Mustang, those cost a small fortune...

Copy that on bambi. Yes I could sent you a set of prints to build from. Is your grill lower in the center? On my truck the fenders and grill are flush across the front that made it easy to design. If your grill dips lower in the center that will need to be addressed. Also, sorry to hear that about your Mustang.

Yeah, Brad, I just checked and my grill is about 2.25" lower than the headlights. I'd have to lower the center section for sure.

That does pose somewhat of a problem. You may be just as well off to take pictures of mine to a good fab shop and work with them on a new design. If you just lower my design, you would possibly need to shorten the end tubes and lower tread plate ends for tire clearance. Then you would want a filler panel on top running under the headlights and fenders to make it look right. All of the lower tread plate pieces may need to be changed to work out right. If you know someone who does cad design work that would make it a lot easier to do. They can model it up on their computer so you can decide on the look you want. In the end, it may only look sorta like mine. If you want I can send you the dimensions and angles for the tubing and mounting brackets as a place to start. Sorry I took so long to get back to you on this, been a busy week plus we are burning a house tonight.

That's what I was thinking. I was already thinking about whether or not I could still use your design but drop the center tube approx. 2" and leave the rest. I figure if I could get the tubing and the brackets nailed down the rest shouldn't be too hard to fab since it's mostly straight stuff. I should be able to use cardboard for templates.

I'd LOVE to be burning a house! Our Chief is a bit leery since the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is a real pain in the keister about that stuff plus most of the residents out here are "sensitive" and would complain like crazy. Have fun and stay safe.

Yea, the EPA is sorta funny about stuff like that. Anyway we got like 24 or so burns out of it Friday night. Nobody got hurt so that was good. If you can send me your email address I can send you the prints for the base brackets and tube work. It will be in a PDF file format. They will be a good place to start to fab your bumper. I would slot the holes up and down in the brackets, I had to slot mine out with a plasma torch just a little. Cardboard works great for templates that's what I used. To save money I took the brackets while they were flat and made a template of them and used it to make the rest of the brackets from to keep everything in line. A good fabricator should be able to figure out where to put extra bracing. My email address is mclaughlin5@bellsouth.net

Thanks!

Sounds like ya'll probably got some good training in. We're doing SOPs with our EMS provider Tuesday night, should be just short of torture...

Thanks for the help, really don't think I'd know where to start w/o it.
