Go to Al's BroncoLinks & find the Army FM on field-expedient recovery.

I use a 1 3/8 D-ring because it fits over a 2" square tube perfectly, and I don't have to worry about either breaking, no matter what I do. I got it at a pawn shop for ~$10.

Do you have a picture? I'm curious what your talking about.

I'll stick with my recovery strap rather than a ANY chain or cable. .

It's in the background of this pic, right above the ball:

round here we dont even mess with straps or chains. I use a 4in dia. 35ft long tug boat rope. I have never broke it and it has pulled out all kinds of trucks. My dads friend fat jack got stuck in some soupy clay and he was sitting on the bumpers on a set of 44in boggers in 79 f150 LWB. no highlift jack could really help him. he was pulled out b with it. If you have ever seen trucks gone wild when they do the tug of war? I have that very same rope. I got it for 10 dollars a foot. worth every penny

For $350, you could by some MUCH smaller, lighter, easier-to-handle straps/cables that would still be plenty strong.
