Skid Plates

I’m looking for OEM skid plates off of an FX4 for my 06 STX 4X4. I haven’t been able to find them anywhere. All I can find is a single front plate, but I want the whole package. Does anyone know where to buy them? And about what they should cost?

If anyone has any lying around id be happy to take them off your hands.

The front skid is about the only one worth anything. The gas tank has a pathetic composite skid and the transfer case skid hangs so low and is made of such thin materials I know I would rip it off in a heart beat doing any real offroading. If you still want them I am sure e bay or the stealership should be able to set ya up

I just called my local dealer for the same thing. Here are the prices that he gave me for each skid plate:

Front - $ 108.53

Transfer Case - $ 48.12

Fuel Tank - $ 191.91

I am still undecisive about the fuel tank, but for only $160, the front two are worth it for me. Besides, the also act as a splash guard and keep alot of the winter crap of my motor.

I have the OEM skid plates and they've taken a pretty good beating.

The transfer case does hang too low IMO but not that much.

Have you tried looking at the local wreckers? I'm sure they can offer a better price then a stealership (used, but if it came off a "city" truck it should be still good to go).

FYI... I ordered my skid plates today from a different Ford dealer and paid this:

$108 for the front skid plate

$48 for the transfer case skid plate

$60 for the gas tank skid plate

$40 for all the mounting hardware.

This was great buy me as I was originally quoted $190 for the fuel tank skid plate at another dealer!

Got my front OEM skid plate in today. It's black, saves me time , because I was going to paint it. Has anyone else seen a black OEM skid. Nobody at the dealership had seen a black one either. Just wondering?

Mine were just unpainted metal/steel. Black would have been nice, maybe I should take mine off and paint them

Hey LightningbBolt,

Have you mounted your front plate yet?

My clips are too short for the back. Did I get the wrong clips?

I just got back from being away on business. I plan to throw them on tonight or tomorrow morning. I will let you know. I will at least try and check the fitment today for you though.

Incidentally, mine is just plain metal. I wonder if the black plate is a different size?

Are all 4 of your clips the same size?

The front two snap in perfectly.

FoMoCoFan,

First, you were right about the black plates. My plain metal plate didn't fit at all. I went back to the dealer and they said I was given the wrong one, and handed me the correct one (NOTE: When I picked them up the regular parts guys were out).

Guess what, the new front skid plate is black! And it fits perfectly. I went ahead and opened the other two boxes and found that the transfer case skid plate is also black, and the fuel tank skid plate is black plastic.

As for the hardware... I have a whole bag of hardware, as well as two new fuel tank straps that are longer so they will accomodate the fuel tank skid plate.

I am giving my rig a bath in the morning and washing the underside really good before installing. I will then sort the hardware and install, and should be able to tell you more abouut the clips then.

I will take some pics of the plates, the install, and of my rig and post tomorrow evening... Just one question, How do I post pics?

One quick note to those looking for skid plates at a scrap/junk/wrecking yard. Everyone I talked to in a tri-state area said that skid plates from anything go in the scrap metal pile, and no one would save them if one came through.

These are also few and far between on E-Bay, and most offroad/4x4 shops return stock parts after lifts/conversion to the owners, so they have no second hand parts either.

Best option here is the dealership... but be sure to call around and work to get money off the "list" price of the parts. At cost or just above is very do-able.

Keep me updated Lightning Bolt.

Let me know if all 4 of front plate clips are the same.

As far as posting pictures goes, I'm new to that stuff. This site has a great browse feature to find pictures in your computer. Create a gallery and give it a shot.
Thanks.
