Got a Question

hey guys i just signed up and i got a question. i just bought a 99 f-150 lariat with a 4.6l in it. its got 133k miles on it which is alot. it has the towing package on it. i was wondering, im keeping this truck for along time but should i do all my upgrades on the 4.6 or should i take it in the pooper and switch it out for a 5.4. now i will be doing some towing but nothing insane. but i will be doing ALOT of offroading. so waht do you guys think.

I bought my '98 150 with 205,000 on the clock. It's got the 4.6, 4x4 tow package. It was a package deal with an already built 5.4 sitting on the stand, ready to drop in. However, I'm going to wait until the 4.6 dies. It's a good motor, planty of power. I think it'd be a waste to pull it right now.

how long till you think the 4.6 will die i mean i really dont want to drop like 5k into it and other performance stuff if it's not worth it. i really like it though.

There's some 4.6's on here with over 300K, there was one that died with 476K. Take care of it, and it'll last you forever (hopefully)

if your 4.6 runs good you wont get stuck unless ur in sometihng you would get stuck in anyways

Really about the only difference in the two motors (besides overall power) is where they make the power. 4.6's have to win a little higher (~4000) to get max torque. 5.4's run about ~2500 for peak torque. This means that in the 4.6, gas it and go. It's a little easier to crawl in the 5.4.
