4x4 low
4x4 low
I went to put my 05 fx4 in 4x4 low today and some monkey had already switched the switch. I don't know how long it has been in 4x4 low and don't recall seeing the yellow dash light on. If it was in 4x4 low and I tried to drive down the freeway would I be able to tell? If you drive over a certain speed in 4x4 low does it automatically disengage or something. How can I tell if I suffered any damage?

Dont worry the 4x4low cannot be enganged without you first putting the truck in neutral. If you just switch it over into 4x4low without switching it into neutral it will simplu go into 4x4hi.
Good luck.
Good luck.
Thanks. I got a little worried. If the switch is in 4x4 low will it not fall into 4x4 low when you shift from park to drive since you go past neutral? I am new to this on the fly in the cab shifting to 4x4 low. In my f-250 you had to get lock in the hubs and wrestle the huge floor shifter to wrangle it into 4x4 low. I like this new method much better if I can just keep the monkey ie teenager away from it. His favorite trick was to switch my suspension over from tour to sport on my Corvette. I would drive around for days before I would realize that ever little bump was jarring my teeth out.
Lets say your racing someone and want a bit of an edge off the line, can you switch it into 4hi and after launch switch back to 2wd or will it slam into 2wd and possibly damage something. I would think 2wd is much better at high speeds.
You can launch in 4wheel and later switch over as long as you are under 55 theoreticly as long as your wheels arent spinning and stuff like that but changing into 2 wheel while under hard acceleration is gonna put allot of stress on your truck, so it is possible but i wouldnt do it.
No it will not fall into 4low becuase you need several seconds in Neutral for the change to be made. You are safe, like i said you have to try to put it into 4low so dont worry, worst thing that could happen is it goes into 4hi on accident. Just you dont want to do that if your going over 55 or your tires are slipping!!!!!

O about the launching in 4hi, again 4 wheel drive is intended for low traction situations meening its not good to be in 4hi unless you are in that kind of a situation.
Bottomn line its not good but you can do it.

Thanks FX4man. I am glad I did not hurt my new truck. I can't tell you how nice it is to be able to shift into 4wd from the cab. I hated having to get out of my old truck and lock in the lockers. I have to back a race trailer up an incline to get it to the shop and I used to spin trying to get it up there. Now I just flip it over to 4wd and never spin a tire.
