Air down the fronts to about 15psi and measure the foot print. Do this on the the road. Air down the rear till you get the same foot print. You now have your trailering tire pressure for the rear wheels. I would use 4Lo when pulling the trailer. You will most likely be reving in the power band and if you need more speed it will be as simple as pushing the accelerator. Becasue you are in the power band already it will not lug or hesitate or kick down but the motor will answer with more speed the instant you need it. If I was running the Baja I would use 4Hi as I would be traveling at speeds in excess of those possible in 4Lo. But a speeds under 60mph I use 4lo. Good luck pulling your trailer on the beach. I would invest in some of those ramps that the auto haulers use and cut them in 5 foot lengths to put under the trailer when it sinks.

Under 60 in 4lo! That's a bit fast for 4lo.

Indeed, why? We calculated it out a while back.... with stock wheels and tires and stock gearing, 4 low's max speed worked out to somewhere around 63 MPH IIRC. That was at red-line in overdrive in low range. I've done it.... it's not pretty, but it'll do it.

It just sounds incredibly fast for the low gearing it has. Mind you, this was a jeep but it too was in low gear, it tops out at about 25-30mph with what I believe to be stock gearing. You are probably right it just doesn't sound right after riding in Jeeps.

Granted the planetairy gears are just a humming but the input and output shafts are not turning any faster than they would in 4Hi. And they are the shafts that are supported by the bearings.

Well I have not been back to the site in a while to give everyone a chance to give their thoughts. I have since tried all of your suggestions and advice. Sorry folks but the only way to do it with out getting stuck up to the door jams is drop the pressure to 15lbs all around and put it in 4 low. 15lbs and 4 low I can pull the 12000lb 5th wheel around any where I want including several cuts in the dunes with hills and turns like I was on the parkway. Very easy on the equipment. I even checked with the guys that work at the park. They claim the only people that need to be pulled out are the ones that refuse to air down to at least 15lbs and have never seen a blown bead yet. As i said in the first post I had also been doing it for years as well and just wanted some other thoughts. You guys realy came through as always. Pls don't take this the wrong way. I really appreciate all the input from every one. I am difinitly no expert and have come to you all and have really gotten some very good advice and have saved my butt many times. Thanks again to all of you for trying your best to help. You are the best in my eyes.

My truck did fine in the sand while towing a 25ft. trailer. I aired my tires to 15psi and left the trailers tires alone, not once did I come even close to getting stuck.

If anyone is so inclined would you mind airing down the trailer to 15lbs and see if it makes a difference.

Twstd, your truck is sick. You should put some mods into your engine if you want power. (in regards to your sig comment about the trucks power). How much does a trailer like that go for? I'm looking for a nice, cheap trailer just like that.

Thanks man! I want to start modding this truck, but the wedding date is comming up....(man would I get in trouble if I spent that money)soon enough though. The trailer is my brother, I think he paid 5-7k for it?? Before I hit up the dunes again, Im going to install a 3" BL for extra tire clearance.

I don't see the point of airing down the trailer tires unless its something HUGE. You will have no problem with a trailer in the sand if you air the truck tires down. The only reason I aired down was so I could go ****** around in the sand and jump this heavy beast!!

The point is to see if it will make a noticable difference. I have no doubt that you have no trouble pulling the trtailer around. I was just wondering......

I have done my share of wheeling in the sand at Hatteras and I have never seen anyone pull a RV out on the beach. I would not have thought you could do that and not get stuck. Maybe the sand is not as soft where you live? I have seen class C motorhomes on the beach south of Hatteras on the core banks but not the sand there is harder with more sea shell mixed in.
