Post Winches?

Really want to buy a winch. So here's what I'm looking at. Either the Warn 9000i, this winch w/front hidden receiver mount and all wiring front and rear installed is $1,500. The Ramsey 9000 Platinum with same setup is $1,700. I really like these setups because the winch is removable and can be used front or rear. I noticed the Warn uses less amps at partial pull. But the Ramsey claims the most power and fastest pull. I really don't care about the speed but I want the most reliable and strongest one availeable. I'd like to get as much information as possble before I go dropping close to 2 grand on this. But it would ease my mind to have one and a good place to start building this truck up.

Well, I just got a Ramsey pro 8000, really nice winch. But if you have a choice of getting a Platinum, then you should go for it. There is no other stronger 9000 winch on the market. Now Ramsey also just came out with the new Platinum 9500, and it's got 4.8 horsepower, now that's a strong winch.

Good luck in whatever you pick.

Thanks for the info. Mudder, boy I really didn't expect these things to be that expensive. I hope it's a quality piece of machinery. I'll have to look into that 9500. But I'm gonna first have to regroup and come up with a lot more extra cash. I still think this would be a good buy, because the main money item is the winch so I can always use it on different trucks if I ever trade (which I doubt, but...). Good luck with your winch too.

Ah Davensa,

I too have been through a couple...

But I think a winch is used to drag you "out" of something you're stuck in

and

a wench continuously drags you into something you want to get out of.

If you're not planning on stalling out your motor in deep water, the MileMarker is the best in my opinion. It ties into your power steering system. And why not, the pumps are usually around 4hp. There is no amp draw and no overheated winch motors. That means no heavy duty alternator, no second heavy duty battery, no short pulls because the winch motor is overheating. The best electric winch is the Warn spur gear winch. I believe it is #8274. If you're searious about an electric winch, that is the most efficient and durable, and time tested, although you won't be able to use it with a hide a winch system. Due to its height it will be visible.

I was thinking about going with the mile marker hydraulic winch. i found one today in a magazine for right around $550 for a 9000 lb winch. If i go with that and if i cant use the hide away bracket im gonna install a reciever in front and set it up so i can use it in front or back. But the bad thing to that is that there would be a whole lot of hoses i would have to run for the fluid but on the bright side i could pull either way with it.

MUDDER, Really nice truck you've got there. Was the Ramsey hidden mount kit pretty easy to install? What about wiring and do you run with two batteries? Also do you know what the bolt pattern of the ramsey winch is for the bottom four bolts (like 10" by 4.5")? Thanks.

Thumbs up

Sky,

Thanks, it was pretty easy. The instructions said to take off the bumper, but that would have also recquired to take off the grille guard, well we said "I don't think so to that". We were able to skip around that and just take the tow hooks off, do a little trim of the plastic, and on it went. It's not wired yet, gonna do that later this week when I get time. So for now it's tied up under there with zip ties. I believe we are gonna continue to run just one battery. As for the bolt pattern, I'm not sure, I'll have to get back to ya.
