What next?

Okay, what modification should I get next? I don't have any stellar ideas. I have a 1995 F150 4.9L I6 with a 5-speed Manual Transmission. Here's some of the do-dads I already have.

2" Body Lift
MSD Ignision
K&N Air Filter, no FIPK
4.10 Gears
Detroit E-Locker
33" BFG AT/KO on Rock Crawler Rims
Flowmaster Exaust

I'll take any suggestions under $1000 dollars.

Terry

What do you want to do with the truck, rocks, mud, trails? You could go for a selectable locker for the front and then try and stock up on as many spare axle shafts that you can find. I'd leave the motor/trans alone. The tire size should work and don't waste money on a lift if the tires fit fine already. The lower you can keep the COG the more stable the truck will be. Could always save up for some different tires if you wanted. If it was me I'd take that $1000 and use that to start a SAS to a D44. If you can do most of the fabbing yourself then you can do it for under $1000 pretty easily since the swap is almost bolt in. The other option you could do would be to stock up on essential supplies in the truck. Things like first aid kits, survival gear, simple tool sets, etc.

Don't need a 15k winch for a 1/2 ton truck. An M8000 is all you really need. If you buy the 15k you're paying for winch you'll never need to use.

The winch would be 100% Great but then I would need to invest in a bumper to hold it.

Ok, you go spend $1400 on an M15000 and I'll go buy an M8000 for $500 and I'll get out just as easy as you and I'll have another $900 to go spend on something else. Overkill

So you are saying that if you are 4 wheeling in a 1995 F-150, there are no possible circumstances that could ever happen that you wouldn't need a bigger winch for? Is that it?

About the only time you'd ever have need of a 15k winch on a truck like that is if you're buried in thick gooey mud up to the windows. Other than that an 8k winch is enough muscle to get you pulled out.

Oh. That happens to me, actually more than you'd think.

So you're saying that you have your truck submerged in mud where pretty much the only thing you see sticking out of the mud is the cab a little hood and a little bed on a somewhat regular basis? I'm not saying you have one side of the truck stuck part way up the door, I'm saying you have it completely buried to the point its not far from out of sight.

Yes, I understood, and yes, it happens. Sometimes it's above the window line. Never stuck, I usually am just in that position for a second or five, but I'm sure that I will be stuck in one of these mudholes one day, and I don't want to have the winch cable snap and pwn me or my truck, so I think I will go with the double-extra super huge winch.

15,000 lbs is way too much. IMHO
If you get a ****** block it will double the
pull power of the winch and not snap the cable.

pickupman,

I'd really like to see some pics of you window deep in your truck and pulling through these mudholes. You must have some pretty extensive waterproofing on your motor and a neat snorkle set-up. I also think that a 8-9,000 lb. winch is plenty for our trucks. If you're doing this kinda wheelin you may need a winch that will pull at least 15,000 lbs.

Talking

Well I have done some decent wheeling and I have never stalled my m-8000. I do carry a ****** block, and extra 125' of cable, but never have I stalled the winch with the rope on the bottom layer. No I have not gotten it stuck up to the windows, but I do not believe Pickup man for a second that you have actually had your truck "sometimes above the window line" in mud. Maybe muddy water, (Isnt really a big deal even if you do get stuck as it is not hard to winch through) but mud is a different story then muddy looking water.. Anyways, I dont mean to bash you, Please prove me wrong with a picture, or video and I will apoligize for not believing you. . As for the next mod, you can run a winch for cheap. I got set up with a mount and brand-new m-8K for less then 500$ US. go buy a winch, then a couple foot length of 7" 1/4" wall C-channel and make your own hidden mount. Not hard, it only took me ~1.5 hrs and cost 35$. Thats if you have a grinder, and drill. You could get a locker. or even Beadlocks. hehehe nah, I wanna be the only one with beadlocks on a new F-150, scratch that. hehehe good luck, and let us know what you choose.
