Quagmeyer,
Be careful trying to Bolt-on horsepower. I haven't looked at the "cold air" intake system #s for my FX4 because it does pretty well for most occasions. I did, however, investigate putting a "cold air" intake tube and filter on my last ride. The company was advertising a 20HP gain. I did some digging out here on the net a found an actual hp/torque vs RPM chart that had been dyno'd from that system. The system did show a 20 hp gain, but it was at 5700 rpm. The computer on our trucks limits them to, I think, 5400rpm.......and ask yourself when was the last time your tack was pegged that far to the right, unless it was about to shift into 2nd gear.
My point is that some of the advertisements you see can be a bit misleading. You want to look for low-end (1000-3000 PRM) gains.

get the mower out
hey fellas thanks alot for the insight, i read that the gains where misleading, but i was wandering about mud and water getting into the filter and if those foam covers even worked?? and as for my 2003 fx4, i red line it everyday, i heard it was good for the engine, ya know breaks it in for the day......obviously im just kidding!
just ordered the magnaflow exhaust yesterday, marines i work with are makin fun of me cuz its a siso and isnt a flowmaster, but hey i heard it was a good exhaust.
and as for turbo, pickup man. if you find 3-5 grand just laying around somewhere, let me know and i'll stop by and pick it up!!!
take easy fellas

Just kidding, but for some serious low-end power, you're going to need to check into getting a turbo on that truck.

A turbo isn't going to give you any low end power. A turbo gives you HIGH end power. Remember you need to get the rpms up to get the turbo to spool before you get boost. A supercharger on the other end will start developing boost at lower rpms since its run off the serpentine belt instead of with exhaust gas.
Every little bit helps. Power added is power added.
I have a Cold air system on my truck. If you are going to be in water to the point of wetting the air filter you will need a snorkle. Even with the OEM system. I have had the whole engine covered with mud and the filter never clogged.
