posi swap??

will the center section out of a 5.0 mustang, simply bolt into the rear of my 99 f150?
id like to have a limited slip rear instead of an open rear.
but funds wont allow to buy a new section.
any tips??
thanks

Memory tells me that Mustangs & Rangers use 8.8", 28-spline??
I could be wrong on this one. Can anyone else verify, yes or no on spline count of all Mustangs with 8.8".

I recently did a swap on My 1994 Ranger 8.8" rear diff. It had 28-spline axles. When I installed the Eaton-Posi, I carefully noted that the holes in the new carrier where large enough to accomodiate 31-spline axles (in case I ever chose to remove the Eaton-Posi & change axle gears & install in our 1999 F-150). Yes, the new 28-spl. Eaton-Posi carrier had bores large enough to change axle gears from 28 to 31-spline & it would fit in F-150 with 8.8" diff.

That is correct: keep one variable in mind. Be sure & check the diameter of the bore in your carrier (where the axle goe's into the carrier).

For example: on 9", Ford did not always bore 28-spl. carriers large enough to accomodiate the 31-spline axle shaft to pass thru the carrier. If your carrier is not large enough for 31-spl. axles--remove the taper brg's & chuck up in a lathe & bore to approx.: 1.503" & install new 31-spline axle gear kits.

Good luck on removing the clutch packs. You will probably need to improvise, using a homemade puller, all-thread & big washers to remove the spider gears.
