Tight Money!

ok, I am thinking of doing my own gear change! has anyone done this? what dose it take? can this be done at home?
I'm not that worried about rear. the front IFS worries me a little.
is it worth saving money or should i save up and pay to have it done.?

4.56 Front/Rear, LS atleast in rear.

i think its about 1200 to have it done around here.
(but thats not LS)

I have done it in a dana 60. It is a real pain in the a## but it was worth it for me. You will need to get some tools like dial indicator, good torque wrench, gear marking compound, calipers. Thats all I can think off but I am sure there is more. My gear swap took me about a day and a half. I had my pinion and carrier in and out at least ten times. Most people are probably going to say they can do it in less than half a day but I am saying from experience, don't try to do it after work one day.
You will definitely need a differential rebuild manual. I got mine at pep boys for like 16$. Can't help you on the front but I would be more worried about the rear diff. This is the one that will have to be absolutely perfect if you want it to last. I know a 8.8 is not an dana 60 but here is the idea. Cant help on ls either.
