4.10 and auburn pro after 5000 miles

I figured I would post an update on this combo since I have had it for a while now.

Basically, it kicks ***! The 4.10 gears are perfect. The truck dooesn't feel like it is geared too low or the RPM's are too high at all. I can tell absolutely no difference in noise, etc. My gas mileage improved by an average of 1 MPG. The truck has a lot more "oomph" now, and doesn't feel nearly as sluggish. This geta a two thumbs up from me. The only downside is cost. It's not cheap. I am stull stuck in 2WD mode because I haven't gotten the front half of the truck done yet.

The Auburn pro was touch and go for a while there. It was noisy. So I changed the fluid and additive from whatever Ford put in there to Castrol rear end oil and K&W additive from Advance auto. The noises eventually got so bad that people would follow me around and tell me my rear end was about to go out in my truck. it was really, really noisy. Drive through lines were downright scary with all of the noises the truck made. I called up Auburn and describe the symptoms, and the lady said I was using the K&W additive, sure enough. I went and put in 8 oz of the Ford stuff along with some new non synthetic gear oil like they suggested. Wow! Now the differential is nice and quiet, just like the stock one. I am a happy camper again.

As far as performance goes, it rocks. I had to go offroad last weekend, and deciced to just wing it. Ther eis this very steep hill that has a lot of ruts. it is very long and steep. Down has always been easy, but I always had to use 4wd to get back up. Well, lat weekend I made it back up in 2WD mode. The auburn really helped here, even better than the stock LSD diff did.

As far as driving in the rain goes, the truck does fine. The only thing you have to worry about is that when the *** end starts to come around, it does it fast. It doesn't slide or spin sooner than before, but if you keep your foot in it, it won't straighten out like when the truck was stock. With your foot in it, the truck WILL turn around on you, so you just have to be careful there.

Overall it was $1000 well spent for the gears and the rear end. I have the gears for the front, now I need the powertrax, and the money for the install. I can't wait to do some serious off roading with the front end of the truck done, too.

Glad you like it. I plan one getting the 10.25 Auburn Pro LS sometime in the near future. The only dislikes is the non-synthetic oil.
