Lightbulb responce to cpadpl

In responce to your question about my powertrax rear and bladerunner grill.

cpadpl,
Mostly has to do with turning. In a tight right hand turn it is hard to not peel wheels. This is mostly because the inside wheel which has no wt continues to get full traction while the outside wheel is disconnected by the turn. You really have to go easy. I also burned up my tires (nitto 404) in about 20,000 miles. They should have lasted twice that. I ran them overinflated and that may have had something to do with it but I can hear the inside wheel breaking loose when turning so that also has something to do with it. In the rain it is more pronounced.
I think if I were running stock gears and/or larger tires this would not be nearly as noticeable. The rear is otherwise invisable except very rarely if the rear does not reingage immediately, you can hear a loud clank and feel a little torque steer from the rear when it slams in. Again I will say this is very rare. Has happened maybe 8 times since I have had it installed.

The grill itself is a Steel Horse from Whitney. After the install I got the stock Taurus blade runner from a local dealer. Used long springs to hold it to the grill. it has 4 areas to attach in the back and each spring goes from one tab around the back support of the grill and to the next tab. Hard to explain but if you get one and have trouble, I can probably post pictures. Would also work using large plastic ties. Thought about that after I put it on.

I just got the bumper grill and will post pictures after I install it.

Sure does look nice.....It's unfortunate that the choices are limited as far as traction in the rear end, as far as I know the OEM, Powertrax, and Auburn are really the only options. I'm wondering if the revamped 2003 won't have 4 channel, 4 wheel ABS, which would open up the options to every LS like the Torsen or Truetrac, presuming that made it for the 8.8 or whatever end you have....

Did I read somewhere where you said your truck is 6 years old? Sure looks like it was brand new? How does the interior look? How does she run? I tell you, there's nothing more satisfying than owning an older vehicle that people mistake for new as long as she runs well...It's like you get the "new car" experience for multiple years....I'm kind of a buy and hold kind of guy myself, usually owning cars 10 to 15 years....Are you thinking about upgrading when the new models come out? I was think about doing that, or waiting 1 year after the new models come out (until the 2004 models or late in the calendar year of 2003) just so maybe a few huge "Pinto-gas-tank-explosion" type of recalls can be made and adjusted for on the assembly line before I buy...

You can check here for some articles on the different types of LS and locking rears available.
http://www.ring-pinion.com/
Randy's ring and pinion is a good site for information and also prices are not bad. If you read the articles you will find that the factory stock limited Slip is really not an option since it is poorly made and burns out quickly under any load.

The truck is indeed 6 years old and just turned 120,000 miles this weekend. It has been paid off for two years now. That has allowed me to spend some money on the things I want. I have a brand new short block and some PI heads in my garage just in case something goes on the engine. I plan to keep the truck for a long time.
The interior is in decent shape, not show quality but nice.

I hope you get it worked out what rear you want. If you seriously off road then the Powertrax is the way to go. If you spend most of the time on pavement the perhaps one of the better LS would be better. One thing for sure, get some 4:10's or 4:30's. Gears make all the difference...
