Question 4:10/rev Limiter Problem

I HAVE A 97 150, 4.6 AUTOMATIC. I SWITCHED FROM 2:73 GEARS TO 4:10 AND EVER SINCE I GET WHAT FEELS LIKE THE REV LIMITER GOING OFF AT 85 MPH. I HAVE RECALIBRATED THE SPEEDOMETER WHEN I SWITCHED THE GEARS. IT DOES IT WITH THE OVERDRIVE ON OR OFF. TWO DEALERS DID A PID TEST BUT COULD NOT FIX IT. ANY SUGGESTIOS? THANKS

What size tires do you have?

What RPMs are you turning at 85 MPH?

Are you sure you had 2:73 gears? Most 97 trucks with 4.6 motors had either 3:55 or maybe 3:73 gears

Get a Superchips and have the rev limiter removed.

Hl8a,
Something is telling your computer that you are going faster then 85. What tires do you have and what number tooth gear did you use to recalibrate the speedo? Does it seem like the speedo is off (compared to before the switch)?

i used a 23 tooth speedometer gear and it seems about 3 mph off. I have lightning wheels and the tire measures 26" tall.

HL8A,
You can see my tire size in my signature. They measure 29.5 inches off the ground (close to 31 unloaded). Check your tires with a tape off the ground. if they are close to mine then you probably need the 21 tooth gear. I have checked my speedometer with two new trucks and it is dead on. I used the 23 tooth with 4.30 gears.
If yours is off then everything is off (timing, advance curve as well as speedo) in your case retarded. This doesent explain why yours shuts down at 85mph but it could be messing with your computer. It will only cost $8 to 12 at the dealer for the 21 tooth gear. May be worth a try.
I also recommend the superchip. It will work mighty fine with your gears...

Something is way off with your truck HL8a. From the ruff calculations I made with your gears and 26 inch tires you should be going 141mph @ 5000rpms and 151mph @ 5500 rpms.

I believe that the rev limiter on your truck is set to 5500rpms which makes it unlikely that you would hit the rev limiter at 85 MPH. You better give it all a good ckeck over and make sure the gearset you had installed is actually 4:10 ratio.
