hey the tag on my truck (1997 F150 4.6 Auto) the one inside the drivers side under axel it has this.
Axle
18
that means I have an open diff(we call it one whell peel down here) and 3.08s right. and do you know what size rear end I have.

18=open(non-LS),3.08 ratio; u r correct.
All 4.6 models use an 8.8" rear.

Max does it matter what rear end my truck has, all I need are gears that fit an 8.8 and the install kit right.

Any 8.8" gears will work. If people change the differential, they need to know of # of spines. So, yes, gears, lube, and installation kit. There are several levels of installation kits; some include differential and axle bearings. www.ring-pinion.com/product_info/kits.htm
