Question removal of transfercase

I will be removing my transfercase in the next couple days because something broke in it. My question is that the chilton and haynes manuals say to remove the torsion bars and the mount for them. It is close but I don't know if this is necessary. Has anyone done this or know if they have to come out.

Thanks
Mike

Yes I have done it and YES they have to come out to just remove the case. NO I don't think it is a job for a DIY'er, but it can be done.
