Power steering making noise
Power steering making noise
Ok, I think everyone knows how the power steering sounds, mine does not make a whole lot of noise, but when I turn the wheel to the right it makes that aggravating sound. What can cause this and whats a good way to keep it quiet?
In all of my years of owning Fords, I have changed out more power steering pumps than anything else. Couple of tips:
1. Changing the fluid sometimes helps.
2. If you replace it, do not use a rebuilt. I've installed several that made the same noise.
3. The last option is to drive it untill it stops working. That could take years.
Good Luck.

I'm thinking that if it makes the aggavating sound only when you turn right, it might be caused by something other than the pump. The sound is probably coming from the pump, the normal sound is being aggravated and I think this aggravation might be from extra strain being caused by some binding somewhere in the the steering linkages.
Normally, the pump should sound the same no matter which direction you turn the wheel. If it makes a noise turning left, it makes the same noise turning right.

I was playing with it some more today, and when I put the truck in park and turn the wheel from side to side, it doesn't make "too" much noise outside, for some reason I can hear it more when I'm inside the truck than outside.
