4X4 Help

Hey guys i have an 05 F-150 Lariat. I just started having problems with the 4X4 Low. High engages easily but when i try low sometimes it engages and sometimes it doesnt. Could this be a bad connection somewhere or could it be a bad transfer case motor.

Are you engaging it with the truck stopped in Neutral with your foot on the brake?

Yeah. Brake pedal is all the way down. I make sure it's in neutral. I wait about 30 seconds to see it it engages and it doesn't. But other times it engages instantly.

I would isolate which wire powers the ESOF motor to shift to 4L and see if it's a bad connection or receiving power when engaged. It's in an exposed location so it's not too hard to imagine salt or moisture could've taken it's toll on it

You probably have loose bolts inside the steering column. Drop the lower cover and look for two Torx bolts. If it doesn't think it's in neutral, 4L won't engage.

It's an 05 lariat the shifter is in the middle console. Does it also have those 2 screws?

Not that I know of - but something is loose or the MLPS is out of adjustment.

I went out this morning and checked 4lo and it engaged and disengaged normally. Then I put it back to 2wd and put it into drive and reverse then I tried putting it into 4lo and it didn't engage. I'll check out that sensor and see what happens.
