shift module location

Hey guys, and gals, I need to find the location for the electronic shift module for my truck. I have looked, but unable to decifer the layout of it. It is out and i am tired of a 2wd truck. I am two cheap to take it to a garage and have some one plug in a new one and charge me $1oo for labor. Is this a common thing to go out? I will be on my third one. First one went out under warranty. 98 f 250 lt duty .

Try looking behind the glove box. Mine's an older model, but I think I've read somewhere on this board that it's in the same place on later/bigger models. It's a little black box that will go 'CLICK!' when you switch to/from 4wd.

Good luck!

there is no "shift module" It is handled by the GEM , which also does the one touch down, intermittant wipers, door ajar, seatbelt warning, etc. Most likely the shift motor on the xfer case is bad or stuck, the brushes in the motor corroded. Try this, put the switch in 4hi and get under it and beat the round part of the shift motor with a hammer. Most likely it will go in, and if you keep using it (dont let it sit more than a week in one position) , you should be able to keep it working.
