transfer case
Dniles:
Which one did you have, the BW or the NP? And what was the failure?
Mine's a '92, and has the BW 1356, which is chain-driven. I've been worried that this is a weak system, but it seems to hold up OK. However, mine is a 1/2-ton, so I haven't tried to load it up or tow anything.

Mine is a Borg Warner 4406-24 Manual shift Transfer case... I know it is very similar to the BW1354. One thing I have learned is Take it Easy on your 4WD unless you want to sink ~$2K into your truck.. I don't know it was chain or gear driven... there are a few website that have quite abit of information about these transfer cases. Drivetrain.com is one good one. Good Luck with it and take it easy with your 4WD!
The Tech at the dealership didn't tell me exactly what was wrong with the Transfer Case just that it was broken internally and it was leaking fluid, and I needed a new one to fix my 4WD. Look for my other POST in the "Other Drivetrain" section... I posted a more detaild post. Good Luck.
i had a dodge and it had the np 231 and it was some what weak i never had a problem, then i had a dodge 3/4 cummins and it had the 241 pretty strong . this is my first ford so ill see how it holds up
