Drive Shaft Shot
Drive Shaft Shot
I have a 2007 F-150 FX2 Sport Supercab. Recently I was just turning the corner to my house when all of a sudden a loud clanking sound and severe vibration from the rear of the truck started. I limped home less than 200 yds, thank god it happened that close to home and not on the freeway doing 70mph, that could have been really bad. Anyway, the center carrier bearing is shot, I mean gone. I could literally move the drive shaft with my hand up and down about an inch.
So the question is, the bearing is not replaceable, I either have to buy a new drive shaft or have mine pulled and re-built. I have been searching for a replacement so I can look at cost for all options but I cannot fine the drive shaft length/specs for my truck. 800 bucks to have a custom one made from a local shop, but wanted to know what brands are recommended if I decided to go with a replacement?
I will climb under the truck this weekend and measure it, but was curious is anyone knew? Only have 87K miles on this truck, I bought it new and it has never towed ANYTHING! Has lived a very easy life with the heaviest thing carrying a dirtbike in the back. Oh well, so much for FORD Tough!

The center carrier bearing should be replaceable?
The drive-shaft should be a two unit. You split the two after making a reference mark. Then you have to have whats left of the bearing pressed off the shaft, or VERY carefully cut till it is removable with a hammer & punch. ( Sometimes a press will not do the job ) Emmery cloth the shaft just enough that the new bearing assembly slides tightly into place.

On most drive shafts they are replaceable, not on the 2007. It is a made as part of the drive shaft assembly. You either take the stock 2 piece shaft off and have it re-built or buy a neW OEM.
