Question Gears... Hmm...

Hey guys, I know there are a lot of threads on this topic out there, and trust me, I used the heck outta the search bar haha. But, as many of you have heard before, I'm wondering which gears to get. I couldn't find any threads that gave me the exact answer that I needed. I'll give some info about my truck so yall can point me in the right direction. I have an 05 f150 scab 4x4 flareside, leveled, with the 4.6 and the 5.5ft bed. Currently I have 3.55s and 33's on 17" v-tec raptors. Here soon I will be selling my wheels and tires and purchasing the 6" rough country lift, 17" Fuel Krank wheels, and 35x12.50 17 cooper stt's. I already have a cai, A flowmaster dual rear exit exhaust, and a gryphon with custom tunes. With that being said, would it be better for me to go with the 4.10's or 4.56's? Also, if anyone has any more questions about my setup feel free to ask. Thanks guys.

With your 4.6 engine, I suggest 4.56. Some will suggest 4.88's.

I appreciate the input jaws. Just out of curiosity, why would some people suggest 4.88's? I thought those were mainly for people running 37's.

Do you mean like city, highway, mountains, etc?

I'd say it's about a 60/40 split with city being the 60 and highway being the 40. I'm currently in school in the mountains and even when I'm not in school I live in North GA where it's kinda hilly anyways. I do a little bit of towing but very rarely is it something heavy. It's usually empty 5x8 or 6x12 Uhaul trailers that I move for work.

You and I are in the same boat. I have 35s now with the stock 3.73 gears, and most of my driving is 60/40 being city. I drive mostly hwy on weekends. I think the consensus here is 4.56 if you go 35s. I drove someone's Ram this past weekend with 4.56 gears, 35s and a Hemi motor. It was strong.

definitely 4.56's then, you may want to consider 4.88's. its only about a 100rpm difference between them.

i turn 2K rpms at 60mph and still can get 14mpg

it puts the motor in its rpm range where it make the most power and is most efficient. plus if youre spending over 1200 on gears, might as well make it worth while

I gotcha haha. I'm pretty good with vehicles but gears are something I know absolutely nothing about. Also, is that 1200 you mentioned for the gears the cost of the gears with or without installation?

That's about the same pricing I'm being quoted her in the Pacific NW. The gears themselves cost around $250 just the rear then you have to get the Master Kit $130 or so, figure in approx 8 hrs of labor @ $100 per hour.

This is the best I got quoted $1,800 for the following:

Yukon 4.56 gears 4x4
Master kit new rings, bearings etc
TrueTrac LSD <--I have a hook up for one so I'm supplying

I gotcha. Luckily I won't have to pay for install. I work at my dad's mechanic shop when I'm not away at school, so I can have our head mechanic install everything for me one day. What are some of the better brands to use? I'm not wanting get something crappy but at the same time, I don't want to pay for the top of the line gears.
