Gear dilemma

Having a tough time deciding between 4.10 and 4.56 gears. I currently have 3.55s with 315/70/17, which are about 34.5 inches tall. Went tent camping last weekend and realized I may need to get back in a travel trailer. The one I am looking at is an 18 footer that weighs 4200 pounds. I will also be towing my four wheeler trailer behind that which is another 1200 or so pounds. Total of 5400 pounds which seems doable. The larger tires and 3.55s are overmatched so which would be better 4.10 or 4.56? My truck isn't my daily driver, so I don't do a ton of highway driving, but would like respectable highway mileage if towing at 65. Leaning towards the 4.10s now as I think they would be sufficient for that weight and the 34s. Thoughts?

A new tranny will buy you lot of gas, go with 4.56. If its not your daily driver then why be concerned with mileage especially if towing? Just dont think you'd be happy with 4.10s..

Thanks guys. Six, what kind of rpms you run around 65 with the 35s and 4.88?

Not bad at all and bet that thing is a beast with tons of low end torque. Thanks for the info. May just end up going with 4.56 as if I head to the mountains the speed limit is 55-60 so it wouldn't be bad at all unless I was traveling far on the freeway which would be around 70ish.

May need the gears sooner than expected. Got this trailer last week. 21 foot box, 8 foot deck on the front. It's an 07. Expandable three beds, plus a couch and the table turn into beds.

Go 4.56s for sure, you will love them towing. And that's a nice looking camper. That deck in front for the 4wheelers is a really good idea

Thanks. Suits the needs well, and won't smell like the other lighter toy haulers where you store them where you sleep and the beds fold down from the side. 4500 dry and around 6 or less when loaded including the quads. Good ground clearance as well as I rarely camp in campgrounds. Thinking about flipping axles for another four inches.

I had a question about gears too. I lifted my truck 8" last month and have 37" tires on now. The stock setup is the 3.73's and the guy at the shop said I should go 4.88 gears and it's about $1,500 total. Does that sound right? I know nothing about gears, etc, so I'd just be taking his word for it.

I don't really tow anything at the moment, but it is kind of sluggish now with the lift and bigger tires.

Can anybody make a recommendation?

Thanks for the welcome and the reply str8t six. He did not tell me a brand, but I didn't ask either. Is there a brand that most guys/gals use here in the forum, or that would be recommended?

I've only driven about 1,000 miles since the lift and tires, so hopefully I haven't caused any real damage to the tranny or anything.
