1997 transfer case only shifts when first truned on
Hi I have a question of you about shifting of a 1997 f150 in and out of 2hi 4 hi 4 lo? I have one that quit shifting acted like it was in "neutral" then finely found 2lo. If I played with it enough it would maybe eventually shift from 2 to 4 to 4 lo sometimes and back. I replaced the shift motor and GEM (gem from bone yard but fixed 1/2 the problem so) So the way it sits now is if switch is in 2 lo when I first turn key on truck "shifts into 2 lo" if I switch is in 4H when first turned on truck shifts into 4H if I try and change the shift with truck\key on nothing the dash lights follow the actual transfer case position. I'm very confused on this one. have searched all over these forums and the internet too and have not seen anything similar to this. I hoped maybe you might have a idea?? Thank You ALOT!!!! I really appreciate your time and hate to bother you but desperate

Im in the same boat but my switch just clicks one set(5times) but doesn't move tcase motor at all and seems to put power to both wires to the tcase which i don't think is right. My brother is going to test the clicking switch next week and i will let you know what happens. Please do the same if you figure anything out.. I have replaced gem with used one also to no help and tcase motor with new one.

Well 4 months later and 3 trips to the dealer IT WORKS!!!!!!!!
Turned out to be GEM, Fuse box connectors, shift motor and a wire internmitantly grounding out shorting all components out and blowing them up
the truck saw 3 gem's and 4 shift motors before fixed (2 of the motors were installed and blown by ford!)
